CODEplus is currently seeking SLS Main Systems Engineer to support our operations in Huntsville, AL.

This position is for a Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage Engine Systems Engineer. Duties will involve working both independently and as part of a highly integrated team performing a variety of systems engineering and integration tasks related to the design, development, test, evaluation, and operation of liquid engine systems used on the SLS launch vehicle.

Primary duties for the SLS Core Stage Engine Systems Engineer would include:

  • Support hot-fire testing of the RS-25 and other liquid rocket engines.
  • Review pre-test predictions and post-test data, conduct anomaly investigations, prepare and coordinate engine system and subsystem data review contents and presentations.
  • Coordinate, develop, and present technical materials related to engine system performance, testing and integration to support design milestone reviews and anomaly investigations.
  • Develop and execute engine system performance analysis models to support system test, vehicle integration, and design development activities.
  • Develop test data assessment computer utilities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the evaluation process.
  • Prepare reports and technical assessments in areas of liquid propulsion systems and performance.
  • Attend technical interchange, project planning, design review, and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, resolution and verification activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and support analyses. Complete assigned action items. Assess requirements and implement risk management processes.
  • Document and maintain test and data analysis processes in written work instructions.
  • Translate higher level requirements into lower level functional requirements and design options. Conduct assessments to determine optimal and feasible design solutions.
  • Identify and document customer objectives and product requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum education requirements are a BS degree from an ABET accredited institution in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
    • Prefer 1-5 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with liquid rocket engine propulsion systems via coursework or work experience is desired.
  • Experience with testing, data acquisition and data analyses is desired.
  • Exhibited capability to plan and perform systems engineering and analysis tasks independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing requirements is mandatory.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Power-Point, Excel, and Word is required.
  • Experience using computer programming to efficiently solve engineering problems is required. Python, FORTRAN, VBA, MATLAB, C++, and agile software development practices are desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Individual must be highly motivated, flexible and willing to shift focus areas to meet volatile customer requirements.

Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
