Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for accounting and financial reporting functions for tobacco operations. Assist the Island Enterprises, Inc CFO with accounting, special projects and other financial duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Perform the duties of the Controller for the tobacco operations.
- Supervise accounting staff assigned to tobacco operations and provide assistance, leadership, mentoring, and training as needed.
- Regularly communicate with CFO regarding accounting status, financial performance, business activities, and pertinent operational issues.
- Assist in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis for the tobacco operations.
- Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, supporting schedules, and work papers.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to management regarding profitability and cost control to managers of tobacco operations.
- Monitor the cost accounting for manufacturing products, including inventory control, documenting the receipting of goods and manufacturing supplies, purchase orders, sales orders, and transfers of inventory, work in progress, and other tobacco accounting systems.
- Maintain cash flow projections and monitor cash flow to meet operating needs.
- Monitor banking activities, reconciliations, and treasury-related functions.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Evaluate accounting systems and recommend process improvements, automation opportunities, and operational efficiencies.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and adjusting entries.
- Support inventory audits, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes.
- Coordinate with warehouse, production, and sales departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and inventory management.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate and prepare documentation for annual independent external audits and other federal or state regulatory audits.
- Assist with compliance issues related to the tobacco industry, license and bonding, reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as liaison with auditors, regulatory agencies, financial institutions, and other external parties.
- Oversee sales tax to the Tribe, Federal Excise taxes, and other required filings related to tobacco operations.
- Participate in strategic planning and operational meetings related to tobacco operations.
- Assist management with business analysis, pricing analysis, and operational decision making.
- Assist in recruitment, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions for accounting staff as appropriate.
- Assist with ERP/accounting, Doclink, and Paylocity software implementation, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting as needed.
- Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Responsible for oversight of accounting records, correspondence, and filing.
- Other duties as assigned.

Computer Skills:
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and MAS90.
Requirements:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education Required:
· High School Diploma/GED and 7 years relevant experience in accounting. OR
· Associate of Arts Degree in a related field and 5 years progressive work experience. OR
· Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and 3 years progressive work experience. OR
· Master's Degree in accounting and 1 year related experience.
