POSITION Adjunct Instructor

EMPLOYMENT TYPE Contract 32-40 hours/week; 9 week period

WAGE TYPE Hourly $18-$22/hour

ABOUT US The Industrial Sewing and Innovation Center (ISAIC) is a Detroit-based national nonprofit institute for innovation and skilling in the advanced manufacturing of apparel and textiles. We inspire and equip the industry with the confidence to adopt new technologies and skills by developing innovative manufacturing methods that enhance efficiency, promote sustainability, and establish human-centric industry standards that elevate people.

ABOUT THE POSITION We are looking for Adjunct Instructors to support our Lead Instructor with delivery of our Fundamentals of Industrial Sewing and Production (FISP) program. This program is delivered 5-6 times a year for 8-week periods

Position Duration and Availability Requirements

This is a nine-week temporary position. Candidates must be available for the following required dates:

  • August 6, 2026 – FISP Orientation
  • August 10–21, 2026 – Training with the Lead Instructor, including one week of course preparation
  • September 14–November 13, 2026 – Instructional period

Interested candidates must be available to participate in all required orientation, training, preparation, and teaching dates throughout the duration of the assignment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Related Technical Instruction (RTI)

  • Assist with the delivery of FISP curriculum to maximize outcomes for students
  • Assist with the management of the classroom by covering daily clerical tasks for the Lead Instructor or Instructor
  • Assist with classroom preparation including printing, cutting, or assembling student materials
  • Deliver curriculum materials on schedule as needed when the Lead Instructor is out of the classroom
  • Deliver make-up content as directed by the Lead Instructor

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Satisfactory completion of Fundamentals of Industrial Sewing & Production preferred (85% or above final grade required)
  • Sewing experience, especially in a production setting
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office products and Google tools
  • Excellent eye hand coordination
  • Excellent manual dexterity
  • Excellent process memory
  • Ability to communicate simply and effectively with people from many backgrounds and levels of attained education
  • Effective problem solver
  • Ability to work well with a team and grow with the organization
  • Some prior experience as a teacher or trainer in sewing or other manual skill is a plus. Can be in non-professional settings such as community classes, workshops, on-line tutorials.

  • Ability to sit, stoop, bend, walk stand for extended periods of time?

  • Lifting requirements of a minimum of 10 lbs.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Compensation: $18-$22/hour, maximum 40 hours per week for nine weeks
