Position Title: Commercial HVAC Service Technician

Summary:

The Commercial HVAC Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment. This position evaluates system efficiency, safety, and operational performance across commercial facilities. You will partner with business clients, facility managers, and owners to guide them toward informed, confident service and equipment decisions through expert technical insight and exceptional customer service.

Essential Job Duties:

• Meets with commercial clients and facility representatives to assess equipment performance and operational needs.

• Diagnoses complex mechanical, electrical, and control issues on commercial HVAC systems (roof top units, chillers, boilers, split systems, and air handlers).

• Recommends tailored maintenance, repair, or replacement solutions that align with the customer’s budget, operational requirements, and energy efficiency goals.

• Performs preventative maintenance, system inspections, and routine servicing in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures.

• Completes service work safely and professionally, taking care to protect client facilities and property from damage during service calls.

• Accurately documents work completed, equipment specs, and customer recommendations using field service software.

Other Duties:

• Performs other duties and specialized project support as requested by management.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration cycles, electrical schematics, line-voltage wiring, and low-voltage control systems.

• Proficiency in servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining commercial-grade air conditioning, heating, and ventilation equipment.

• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate technical recommendations, scopes of work, and operational procedures to clients, management, and team members, both verbally and in writing.

• Strong adherence to OSHA and workplace safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

• Excellent time management, problem-solving, and task prioritization skills in high-demand environments.

• Dependable, self-motivated, with a record of regular and reliable attendance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• EPA Universal Certification.

• 3+ years of experience in commercial HVAC service, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

• Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• NATE Certification (Commercial Specialties).

• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), DDC controls, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).

• Journeyman or Master HVAC License.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to operate tablets, mobile devices, diagnostic tools, and specialized field testing equipment.

• Ability to read, write, speak, hear, see, think, communicate, concentrate, learn, and work safely in demanding environments.

• Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 100 lbs repeatedly throughout work shifts.

• Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and step stools repeatedly to access rooftops, mechanical rooms, and elevated structures.

• Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods.

• Ability to work in confined or tight spaces (mechanical shafts, attics, crawl spaces, utility closets).

• Ability to work comfortably in a wide range of indoor and outdoor weather temperatures and conditions.

• Ability to travel up to 75% of the time between client sites, commercial facilities, and job locations.
