SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for all facilities. This role includes routine cleaning of floors, restrooms, windows, and common areas, as well as waste disposal and basic maintenance tasks. The Custodian ensures that facilities are well-kept, stocked with necessary supplies, and in compliance with safety and cleanliness standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, windows, and surfaces.
  • Empty trash receptacles and recycling bins; ensure proper waste disposal.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and floors.
  • Restock supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet tissue.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, reporting repairs).
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as buffers and vacuums.
  • Respond promptly to cleaning or maintenance requests from staff or management.
  • Follow safety protocols and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Assist in setting up or breaking down rooms for events or meetings as needed.
  • Report any damages, safety hazards, or maintenance needs to supervisors.
  • Maintain inventory supplies by completing a daily checklist.
  • Seasonal cleaning as directed.
  • Sanitizes doorknobs and commonly touched surfaces repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Exterior maintenance including snow removal, deicing, and general cleaning around the campus.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday 5:45 AM – 2:15 PM and occasionally Saturdays for special events or larger cleaning projects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record
  • Be insurable to operate equipment
  • Work independently
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
  • Ability to perform the physical labor necessary
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or four to six years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Occasionally exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather)
  • Frequently work near moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally work in high, precarious places
  • Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Occasionally exposed to extreme heat or cold (non-weather)
  • Occasionally exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise
  • Safety apparel and footwear (PPE) are required in all work areas.
  • Must be able to communicate with others
