About This Position
Position Summary
The Patient/Materials Transport Coordinator will receive calls and assign errands, transports & rounds to the Patient Materials Transporters and Volunteers. The Coordinator participates in the interview process and provides feedback on candidates and recommendations for hiring. Participates in the monitoring of staff competencies. During times of high activity will assist with Transporter duties. The Coordinator is responsible to complete the monthly schedule to assure appropriate coverage in the department and is responsible for accurate payroll submission. The Coordinator monitors activities of Hospital and Volunteer Transporters to minimize downtime and availability to all departments for transportation tasks as well as reviewing department productivity metrics.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Performs assigned tasks of transport of patients or materials according to policy.
- Able to organize and care for equipment.
- Integrates safety, patient rights and infection control methods into work practice.
- Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision making process to include recognition and priority setting related to transport and departmental issues. Addresses issues with appropriate actions.
- Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives.
- Attends mandatory in-services.
- Adheres to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance and submission of annual physical
- Collaborates and communicates with the health care team
- Completes competency requirements.
- Completes schedule to assure departmental coverage.
- Participates in the oversight of the Patient/Materials Transport Staff
- Maintains accurate inventory of wheelchairs and ensures availability on a daily basis.
- Performs routine inventory audits on the total number of wheelchairs.
- Ensures the transportation of materials and patients are done in a timely and efficient manner.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
High School diploma/Equivalency required. Previous hospital experience preferred. Successful completion of departmental orientation

Team work: Must have the ability to act in a professional capacity and serve as a role model for transport team. Works closely with department managers to ensure availability and timeliness of all transport needs.
Communication Skills: Communicates effectively (written and verbal) in English.
Problem-Solving: Trouble shoots transport flow challenges and makes adjustment to work assignments as needed utilizing productivity reports for department and individuals.
Planning and Organizing: Facilitates work schedules and assignments to meet demands of the organization including scheduling and payroll.
Stress Tolerance: Needs to maintain composure 100% of the time during conflicting priorities.
Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment
- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Tasks may involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, which require the use of Universal Precaution Techniques.
- Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
- Must be physically able to frequently transport more than 50 lbs. with a minimum of one (1) assist or assistive device; perform difficult manipulative, arm – hand steadiness and hand –eye coordination skills; walk and stand constantly for at a minimum of 2 hours at a time. Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements 100% of the time.
- Must have the ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruption and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time. Individual must be able to understand theories behind customer service and timely transports.
- Must be able to detect objects closely and far away and hears normal sounds with some background noises constantly.

*Salary Range (Ranges based on Full Time Hours) : $44,990.01-$67,474.29
