About This Position
Under general supervision, the Telecommunications Specialist selects, configures, and oversees the installation of telecommunications services across Beacon Health System (BHS). This role serves as project leader for major system or service changes, coordinating with departments, outside vendors, and contractors. The Specialist also provides software support, end-user training, and contributes to special projects as assigned or proposed.

Telecommunications Support

Ensure timely installation, relocation, and maintenance of telecommunications systems to support continuous service across all Beacon Health System locations.

Maintain system reliability through proactive troubleshooting and problem resolution.

Provide updated information on telecommunications hardware, software, and service features to users across BHS.

Evaluate and implement telecommunications system enhancements and design improvements.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders.
Engineering and Administrative Support

Assist in developing budgets, contracts, policies, and procedures related to telecommunications.

Recommend and implement cost-effective telecommunications solutions that align with system standards and specifications.

Complete assigned projects efficiently and accurately.
Departmental and Organizational Effectiveness

Participate in departmental meetings and maintain accountability for shared information.

Complete required education, competencies, and health requirements within designated timeframes.

Maintain licenses/certifications and required training (e.g., BCLS/CPR, as applicable).

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications or Information Technology, and 2–4 years of relevant Telecommunications/IT experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a healthcare setting.

Experience with Avaya Telecom Systems or Avaya certifications (ACA, ACS, or ACE) preferred.

Strong technical knowledge of telephony systems, hardware, and software, including voicemail, call accounting, and diagnostic tools.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

Proficient in project planning, problem solving, and equipment selection/configuration within budget and timeline parameters.

Strong leadership, reporting, and time management skills with a self-motivated approach.

Work environments range from telecommunications repair shops to patient care areas requiring adherence to infection control protocols.

Exposure to high voltage and electrical hazards when testing or repairing equipment.

Flexibility to work outside normal hours for emergency support or critical service needs.

Requires sufficient physical ability and stamina to perform essential job functions, including lifting, installation, and maintenance tasks.
