About This Position
This is a paraprofessional position responsible for supporting the operations of the Early Childhood Laboratory (ECHL) within and outside of the classroom. Responsible for providing instructional/classroom support and clerical/administrative support by assisting Lead Teachers in daily duties and responsibilities. Works under close supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to Lead Teacher and the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Training in child development, education, or a related field is preferred. Must meet continuing education requirements of 24 hours per year and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications while employed.
One year of experience in direct care for young children is required. Experience in general office practices and procedures is preferred. Child Development Associate (CDA) certification is preferred. CPR and First Aid certifications are required within 90 days of employment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides instructional/classroom support and clerical/administrative support.
- Greets parents/guardians and visitors, gathers relevant information, and assists in responding to their questions and concerns.
- Supervises, interacts with, and provides individual support and assistance to children, ensuring that intentional efforts are made to meet children’s individual needs.
- Accepts directions/coordination from Lead Teacher while planning for instruction and working in classroom learning centers.
- Assists in developing, coordinating, and supervising class projects and activities.
- Maintains, distributes, collects, and organizes classroom materials and supplies.
- Completes incident and accident reports as needed.
- Creates, maintains, and updates classroom and ECHL documents, records, and files.
- Uses electronic communication, learning, and attendance technology effectively on a daily basis.
- Assists in assessing and documenting progress of assigned children.
- Records, tracks, and monitors daily records.
- Supervises and serves as positive behavioral model for university student workers.
- Participates in ECHL-related activities and special events.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as backup to the front office and acts as receptionist as needed.
- Cleans classrooms, outside learning environments, and laundry as needed.
- Checks in deliveries and distributes to classrooms.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, university and unit policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, university, state licensing, and professional accreditation standards.
- Knowledge of child growth and development.
- Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and learn university- and department-specific software.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work effectively and patiently with children and parents/guardians of children.
- Ability to create projects for children in the classroom.
- Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
- Ability to operate office and unit equipment, such as copy machines, fax machines, thermometers, dishwasher, washer and dryer, laminators, adding machine, and/or telephone.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
Work schedule is Monday through Friday 9:30am-5:30pm.
