Overview
The Design Engineering Manager will oversee and be directly involved with the development of new ergonomic products from concept to manufacturing as well as make improvements on existing products.
Responsibilities
- Organize technical effort(s) and align team resources to effectively execute business priority objectives.
- Collaborate with the cross functional team to provide innovative solutions for the company’s product lines.
- Lead members of the engineering team to manage the overall functionality, manufacturability, schedule, cost, potential risk and deliverables of a project/product.
- Manage overall budget for developing new products including prototype, tooling, outside resources and personnel.
- Provide leadership to ensure the progression of projects through design process phases.
- Highlight and oversee risk management activities to ensure program/project uncertainty is properly mitigated.
- Collaborate with operations and overseas vendors in fine-tuning all design details, materials and manufacturing to ensure that documentation and production is completed in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with cross functional team, responsible for resolving mechanical design details, manufacturability, quality, regulatory, aesthetic, ergonomic and sustainability details/requirements.
- Work with the product management and sales departments for the development of new products and ensure design specifications are met and implemented.
- Manage vendors and outside resources to ensure the prompt and exact execution of the design.
- Assist in evaluating products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability/quality and ensure project completion and schedule.
- Review/provide input to test plans to validate solutions/products and ensure they meet design/user requirements.
- Participate in Product Roadmap strategy meetings and help identify opportunities for new product development and product enhancements.
- Participate in customer-facing research meetings and help funnel insights into Product Roadmap.
- Communicate with customers for troubleshooting and/or custom solutions.
- Ensure the execution of delegated tasks in timely manner.
- Collaborate with leadership and peers on individual and team goals and expectations.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to create project plans with realistic but quick-to-market timelines.
- Promote transparency across different teams and departments.
- Implement and refine development processes and procedures.
- Oversee, coach and develop direct reports and team members, provide feedback, mentorship and performance reviews. Work with the Human Resources Department for recruiting and performance issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design/Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum 7 years of experience managing Design Engineering teams
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing cross-functional teams and external partners
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading program schedules from concept to launch and managing the delivery of key program milestones in alignment with departmental goals
- Minimum 10 years of product development experience
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks and PDM Tools
- Relevant knowledge of conventional technologies, high volume manufacturing and manufacturing capabilities, such as injection molding, die casting, stamped sheet metal, rapid prototyping, high volume assembly, etc., and product development processes
- Working experience of GD&T and/or ANSI Y14.5 dimensioning & tolerance practices
- Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams in a project-oriented organization. Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with an ability to articulate technical development progress/obstacles/changes, and work to drive business partners for critical decisions as necessary
- Ability to lead, organize and prioritize team projects
- Creative problem-solving abilities
- Continuous improvement skills/interest in contributing to higher efficiency team/department performance.
- Some travel to domestic and overseas vendors and development partners required
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks including Product Data Management Tools
- Using CAD software, develop 3D models of parts and assemblies

Salary Range: $136,012-$198,388
