Description:

Veterinary Dental Center, with three boarded veterinary dentists and two dental residents, provides referral services to over 450 regional veterinary practices. In June 2020, we expanded and moved to a new facility in Aurora, uniquely equipped for dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. As we continue to grow, join a team committed to exceptional pet and pet-owner experiences, advanced 3D imaging (Cone beam CT), pet-owner education, as well as providing Dental CE training to veterinarians and technicians.

Veterinary Dental Center is expanding and looking for a Certified Veterinary Technician with a minimum of 3 years of experience.

Requirements:

The Certified Veterinary Technician will assist the Veterinarian during dental procedures, administering and monitoring anesthesia, performing dental prophylaxis, dental radiographs and CT, patient care, cleaning and sterilizing surgical equipment, and client education. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Must possess a valid Veterinary Technician Certification
  • 1 year of experience as a Certified Veterinary Technician or a minimum of 3 years as a non-certified veterinary technician/assistant Strong communication and leadership skills required
  • Great personality that works well in a team environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Dependable attendance is required.
  • Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure.
  • This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people and understand written directions.
  • Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the telephone.
  • Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing clinic equipment such as electric clippers, syringes, laboratory equipment, computers, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Veterinarian with dental consultations and dental procedures
  • Assist in exam rooms for consultations
  • Obtain medical histories and start medical notes
  • Hold pets for oral exams
  • Help educate clients on dental procedures
  • Assist in dental procedures
  • Admit patients for procedures
  • Place IV catheters
  • Intubate/extubate patients
  • Clean/polish and chart patients’ teeth
  • Monitor vitals during procedures
  • Take full mouth dental x-rays (we train to make this an easy and routine part of this position)
  • Recover patients after procedures
  • Clean and store surgical instruments
  • Assemble photos on documents and print for clients and referring DVMs
  • Explain dismissal documents to clients
  • Educate clients on dental home care
  • Answer phone calls and schedule appointments as needed
  • Attend continuing education webinars/seminars to maintain your license
  • Assist in educating referring DVMs
  • Deliver materials and thank you goodies
  • Train other technicians to take dental x-rays
  • Have the chance to travel to the Brookfield Zoo and assist the Veterinarian in dental procedures
