Benefits Coordinator

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Benefits Coordinator to support our team with insurance verification, authorization processing, and patient account follow-up. This role is essential in ensuring accurate and timely coordination between patients, providers, and insurance companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Run daily DAR (Days in Accounts Receivable) reports and assist with follow-up activities
  • Obtain insurance authorizations via online portals, fax, or phone communication
  • Accurately document all authorization activity within referrals and defer follow-ups based on appointment dates and payer guidelines
  • Monitor and manage the Unauthorized Referral Work Queue (WQ)
  • Follow up on pending authorization requests and contact insurance companies when needed
  • Ensure referrals are not attached to appointments until authorization is received and finalized
  • Upon approval, enter authorization details, mark as authorized, and attach to all applicable dates of service
  • Respond to internal staff requests for authorizations and process accordingly
  • Load and verify patient insurance information for accuracy
  • Troubleshoot and resolve insurance-related errors
  • Scan and upload authorization documentation (fax or electronic) into patient records
  • Answer front desk and staff questions related to insurance coverage and authorizations
  • Handle incoming calls on the payment line and assist patients with billing inquiries
  • Make outbound calls regarding past-due balances and assist with resolution
  • Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned by management

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in medical office, insurance verification, or healthcare administration preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance authorization processes and payer requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and insurance portals is a plus
