Job Description

Position Description:
Build a trade. Build a career. Build it with us.
CDN Logistics is a well-established transportation and logistics company with deep Chicago roots and a reputation for operational excellence, safety, and respect for the people who keep our fleet moving. We invest in our equipment, our facilities, and—most importantly—our employees. Our shop culture is team-oriented, mentorship-driven, and grounded in doing the job right the first time. If you show up willing to learn, work hard, and take pride in your craft, you will be supported, developed, and treated like a valued professional.

As a Diesel Mechanic Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside seasoned technicians while learning the fundamentals of maintaining and repairing a modern tractor-trailer fleet. This role is designed as a progressive learning position—starting with basic preventative maintenance and inspections, and advancing over time into diagnostics and component repair. You will work on both tractors and trailers, develop technical confidence, and build a foundation for a long-term career in diesel maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist experienced mechanics with preventative maintenance inspections on tractors and trailers
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil and filter changes, fluid checks, and basic adjustments
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections to identify wear, damage, or safety concerns
  • Learn to diagnose mechanical, electrical, suspension, brake, and cooling system issues using proper tools and procedures
  • Support minor repairs and part replacements under supervision
  • Accurately complete work orders, inspection reports, and related documentation
  • Identify recurring maintenance issues and escalate findings appropriately
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures to maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
  • Participate in on-the-job, classroom, or online training as required to build technical knowledge and skills

What You Bring
  • A strong desire to learn a skilled trade and grow as a diesel technician
  • Mechanical aptitude or prior hands-on experience (formal training a plus, not required)
  • Attention to detail and a safety-first mindset
  • Must own and provide a basic set of tools
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on shop environment that may include outdoor conditions
  • Willingness to take direction, ask questions, and apply feedback
  • Basic computer skills for documenting work and following procedures
  • Dependable work ethic, strong teamwork, and clear communication skills

If you’re looking for more than just a job—and want real training, real responsibility, and a clear path forward—we’d like to meet you.
