About This Position

Payroll Tax Specialist

Job Description: Processes daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual tax deposits and returns. Supports all departments with payroll and payroll tax knowledge. Maintains state and federal compliance related to payroll, payroll tax, and the PEO co-employment relationship, ensuring all requirements are met.
Responsibilities:
• Execute timely and accurate payroll tax payments and filings with appropriate federal, state, and local agencies, including but not limited to federal tax withholding, state withholding, unemployment tax, 941s, 940s, W-2s, W-3, annual state filings, and worksite reports.
• Ensure timely import and review of all payroll tax liabilities and address any discrepancies promptly.
• Establish, maintain, and close tax accounts as necessary for both internal and client accounts.
• Communicate, respond to, and resolve tax agency issues or notices promptly.
• Support the accounting department with review, analysis, and corrections of payroll tax liability, as well as audit documentation and responses.
• Support client and employee requests or questions regarding payroll tax reports or payroll tax inquiries.
• Assist the Implementation Department with onboarding of new client accounts, including loading successor wages, performing first payroll reviews, and reviewing worksite locations and employee profiles as they relate to payroll tax.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Minimum 2 years of Accounting experience required; payroll or payroll tax processing experience and/or training preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
• FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred.
• Familiarity with and understanding of U.S. employment taxes.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented approach to obstacles and complex issues.
• Adaptable to change with excellent interpersonal skills, promoting goodwill across departments.
