About This Position
The City of Onalaska is seeking a dedicated and dependable part-time Custodian (20 hours per week) to join the Parks & Recreation Department. The Custodian is primarily assigned to the Library and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for employees and visitors. This role involves performing cleaning tasks, including trash removal, floor maintenance, and restroom sanitation, as well as minor repair work as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Empty and dispose trash in waste and recycling containers per schedule.
- Damp mop and dust mop all floors surfaces in hallways, meeting rooms, and offices on a designated schedule.
- Vacuum all carpets per schedule.
- Dust flat surfaces with treated cloth.
- Spot clean walls and doors.
- Wash door windows as needed.
- Clean, disinfect all bathroom facilities each shift. Dust mop and damp mop floors, wash entire surface of sinks, toilets, and urinals. Restock soap, toilet paper, and rolled towels.
- Washes windows, walls, and other areas as necessary.
- May, as time permits, perform basic electrical, plumbing, construction, painting, and repairs to interior facilities.
- Assures that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of each shift.
- Contributes to a cooperative working effort by demonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work or special projects as needed or requested.
Compensation & Benefits: Starting wage for this non-exempt position: $21.30 (step 1) up to $22.49 (step 3) per hour, depending on qualifications. Increases to $21.62 (step 1) through $22.83 (step 3) per hour in July 2026. Eligible for annual wage advancement upon approval. Flexible schedule available.

High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one (1) year of related experience in performing general custodian duties as listed above. Must have good work record with history of dependability. Ability to pass fingerprint background check for City Hall facility and maintain confidentiality due to performing work in office areas containing sensitive information.
