This role is a senior underwriting position focused on evaluating and classifying complex life insurance risks while ensuring high standards of accuracy, compliance, and customer service. You will play a key part in supporting underwriting decisions that directly impact business growth and portfolio quality. The position involves close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders, requiring strong analytical judgment and clear communication. - Assess, classify, and select insurance risks in accordance with established underwriting philosophy, guidelines, and standards.
- Deliver high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders while building strong, trust-based professional relationships.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies related to risk classification, confidentiality, and disclosure requirements.
- Identify and resolve underwriting challenges by applying sound judgment and proposing practical, risk-aligned solutions.
- Contribute to team objectives by supporting consistency in decision-making and fostering confidence in underwriting outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business growth and maintain a high standard of underwriting excellence.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing underwriting processes and efficiency.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in life insurance underwriting, with demonstrated expertise in risk assessment and decision-making.
- Authority level of $1,000,000+ in life insurance underwriting.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, diagnostics, and medical imaging.
- Solid understanding of non-medical risk factors such as occupation, lifestyle, sports, and recreational activities affecting mortality risk.
- Experience analyzing financial reports and knowledge of anti–money laundering (AML) principles.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken French and English (bilingualism required for servicing clients across Canada).
- Working toward or holding professional designations such as FALU, FLMI, or ACS is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills with a client-focused and business-oriented mindset.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, remote work environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Competitive salary range of $70,500 – $117,500 CAD, with eligibility for performance-based incentives.
