Job Summary
The Production Control Manager is responsible for overseeing planning, scheduling, procurement, shipping, receiving, export control, and production-related activities to meet customer demands and ensure timely product delivery. This position plays a pivotal role in managing the production control team, maintaining production schedules, and optimizing material availability to drive operational excellence.
This role requires a "player/coach" mindset, meaning the ideal candidate will lead and mentor the production team while remaining hands-on with day-to-day tasks such as supplier negotiations and purchasing. The successful candidate will also champion process improvements to enhance the efficiency of our supply chain and manufacturing workflows.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Production Control Team, overseeing key functional areas: planning, scheduling, procurement, shipping, receiving, export control, and inventory coordination. Develop and maintain master production schedules that align customer demand with capacity, resources, and labor constraints. Monitor production efficiency, proactively identify bottlenecks, and adjust plans to meet delivery deadlines.Collaborate with leadership on monthly revenue forecasts and track results to meet or exceed budget expectations. Work cross-functionally with Operations, Procurement, Program Management, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure smooth workflows and quick resolution of any issues. Oversee material planning and inventory control processes using ERP/MRP systems to maintain optimal inventory levels, minimize shortages, and prevent excess stock. Become the company’s ERP/MRP super-user, driving system utilization and continuous improvements. Monitor and report on critical KPIs, including schedule adherence, WIP (Work in Progress), and inventory turnover. Ensure compliance with all company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards. Train, mentor, and develop members of the production control team to ensure readiness for current and future challenges. Operate as both a team leader and an individual contributor by performing purchasing, planning, and key supplier management tasks directly.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)7+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operationsStrong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production workflowsExcellent organizational, problem‑solving, and analytical skillsProven leadership experience managing teams in a manufacturing environmentStrong communication skills and the ability to work cross‑functionallyAbility to receive a SECRET security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)10+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operationsAPICS/CPIM certification is a plusExperience mentoring or coaching peer professionals
