Job Description

Description:

The Product Information Manager owns the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of J. Lorber Company’s product data across the Eclipse ERP system, the product information management (PIM) platform, and the company’s ecommerce channels. This role governs the product record from vendor onboarding through catalog publication — item setup, attributes, taxonomy, cross-references, units of measure, images, and specification documents — and executes approved pricing updates in Eclipse in accordance with company pricing policy. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and working closely with the Directors of Purchasing, Operations, and Administration as well as the sales and marketing teams, the Product Information Manager ensures that customers and salespeople see the same accurate product and price information in every channel

Requirements:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Owns the product master record in Eclipse, including item setup, product descriptions, manufacturer part numbers, UPC/GTIN codes, unit-of-measure conversions, buy/sell multipliers, product classifications, and item status maintenance.
  • Administers the company’s PIM platform as the single source of truth for product content; defines and enforces attribute standards, taxonomy structure, and required-field rules by product category.
  • Ingests, normalizes, and validates vendor-supplied product data from manufacturer files, industry data sources (such as IDW/IDEA), and direct vendor feeds; resolves incomplete, conflicting, or non-conforming data before publication.
  • Maintains enriched product content for ecommerce, including marketing copy, attributes, images, specification sheets, installation documents, warranty information, and related-item and accessory relationships.
  • Publishes and synchronizes product data between the PIM, Eclipse, and the ecommerce storefront; monitors integration jobs and resolves failures, mismatches, and orphaned records.
  • Executes approved pricing updates in Eclipse — including price matrices, sell sheets, customer and contract pricing, and vendor cost updates — accurately and on schedule, in accordance with pricing decisions made by Purchasing and company leadership.
  • Audits pricing and cost data for exceptions, including negative-margin items, stale costs, expired contract pricing, and matrix conflicts; escalates findings to the Director of Purchasing and the Executive Vice President.
  • Maintains documentation of all pricing changes, including source of authorization, effective date, scope, and records retained for audit purposes.
  • Builds and runs queries, exports, and bulk-update routines to maintain data at scale; performs mass maintenance safely using test-then-commit practices and reversible change sets.
  • Establishes and monitors product data quality metrics — attribute completeness, image coverage, duplicate items, obsolete SKUs — and drives measurable improvement against them.
  • Identifies and remediates duplicate, obsolete, and superseded items; manages product supersessions, discontinuations, and substitute-item relationships.
  • Partners with Purchasing on new vendor and new product onboarding, ensuring complete product data is in place before items are stocked or sold.
  • Supports the sales team, counter staff, and customers by resolving product data and pricing discrepancies promptly and identifying the underlying cause.
  • Documents product data standards, maintenance procedures, and system configurations; maintains written procedures that allow the function to continue during absence or transition.
  • Recommends improvements to product data workflows, PIM configuration, and integration design; participates in system upgrades and data-related projects.
  • Handles vendor cost, customer pricing, and margin information with strict confidentiality.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None. May direct the work of interns, temporary staff, or outside data services engaged for product content projects.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business, Data Analytics, Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered in place of a degree.
  • Experience: Minimum 3+ years of product data, PIM, catalog, or master data management experience required; wholesale distribution, manufacturing, or ecommerce industry experience strongly preferred. Experience with plumbing, HVAC, or mechanical product categories is a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated database proficiency required, including the ability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries, work with relational data structures, and manage joins, keys, and referential integrity across large product datasets.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, Power Query, text and data cleansing functions, and confident handling of files with tens of thousands of rows.
  • Hands-on experience administering a PIM or product content platform (such as BillTrust, Unilog, Salsify, Akeneo, inRiver, Sales Layer, or similar) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP product and pricing maintenance required; Epicor Eclipse experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with distribution product data standards and taxonomies (UNSPSC, ETIM, IDW/IDEA content, manufacturer data files) preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with a demonstrated habit of validating and reconciling data before it is published or committed.
  • Sound judgment regarding data integrity and change control; understands the downstream impact of a product or price change and works deliberately in production systems.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage recurring maintenance alongside longer-term data quality initiatives.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain data issues and requirements to purchasing, sales, marketing, and vendor contacts.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing requests, and raise obstacles early.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods (up to 8 hours). Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally. Ability to bend, reach, and walk warehouse and outdoor storage areas when verifying product, packaging, or labeling information.

Work Environment

Work performed primarily in an office environment, with periodic time spent at the counter, in the warehouse, and at other branch locations. Occasional exposure to varying temperatures, weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and moderate noise levels. Occasional local travel among the Philadelphia area locations and vendor or industry data meetings, may be required.
