Job Overview:
Responsible for the Main Campus and ASC SPD. Plans, directs and coordinates activities involved in the acquisition, cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage and distribution of surgical/medical instruments, equipment, supplies and other materials utilized in the care and treatment of patients.
Develop, implement and monitor department goals and objectives. Provides strong team leadership, able to motivate staff and respond to individual and team needs. Demonstrates collaboration and partnership skills with physicians, Service Line Managers, OR staff, administrative staff and others.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required .
- 2 years of manager or assistant director/ director required.
- CRCST or CBSPD required
- CIS-Certified Instrument Specialist required.
- CHL- Certified Healthcare leader is required within 1 year required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s in Nursing or other health care related degree and a minimum of 7 years progressively responsible Sterile Processing experience in acute care hospital setting.
- CRCST required

- Full time Days
- 40 hours
Essential Functions:
- Develops and implements policies and procedures, and maintains quality assurance initiatives as required by external review agencies, to ensure that established standards and recommended best practices are maintained.
- Establishes and maintains ongoing educational in-services in the department, to keep staff well-informed of changes in technology, manufacturers' instructions-for-use (IFUs), and other Sterile Processing functions.
- Clinically skilled, familiar with sterile processing developments. Assures that the standards of operation for the department are in compliance with the standards set by regulatory agencies, i.e., JCAHO, NJ DOH, OSHA and AAMI.
- Ensures established procedures and standards of practice are followed for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of reusable instruments and equipment.
- Responsible for the control of the hospital wide reprocessing functions to include determination of the appropriate method of reprocessing including, but not limited to, collection and transport, decontamination, packaging, sterilization, disinfection, storage and distribution of reprocessed items.
- Coordinates repairs and refurbishments and replacements of all instruments and equipment: working collaboratively with Biomedical Engineering.
- Develop, implement and monitor department goals and objectives. Provides strong team leadership, able to motivate staff and respond to individual and team needs.
- Demonstrates collaboration and partnership skills with physicians, Service Line Managers, OR staff, administrative staff and others. Effectively leads and facilitates team meeting. .
- Actively collaborates in recruiting, interviewing and hiring with the Human Resources department.
- Develops unit’s salary and non-salary budgets annually to meet sterile processing care delivery goals. Effectively allocates and schedules unit resources to meet workload demands.
- Explains any significant variances. Identifies and plans for routine capital purchases and replacements. Responsible for the continual efforts in cost savings opportunities with respect to alternative products or third party services.
