POSITION SUMMARY
A Lab Technician performs laboratory services as ordered by a physician or qualified practitioner within the capabilities of the facility.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Certified by professional organization in the state
- Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements
- Acute care experience preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags, and test tubes
- Explain blood draw procedures with patients
- Verify patient information and labeling blood samples properly
- Adheres to Universal Precaution procedures and established Infection Control procedures
- Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills
- Is proficient with CPR and recognizes the need to implement it. Receive re-certification training annually
- Assists in cleaning, sterilizing, and securing equipment
- Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications
