About Bentley Mission Critical

Bentley Mission Critical manufactures factory-built infrastructure for the world’s most demanding data centers. From our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in Greeley, Colorado, we engineer, fabricate, and test complete modular data center systems — pre-integrating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a controlled factory environment to deliver projects 30–50% faster than traditional construction. Our customers include hyperscale, AI/GPU compute, colocation, and enterprise data center operators. We don’t build projects — we manufacture products, and we do it quality-driven, on time, every time.

We are growing fast, and our people are the reason. This role exists to make sure that as we scale, we stay a place where skilled, motivated people want to build their careers.

Position Summary

The 3D Designer – SolidWorks is responsible for developing production-ready 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings for Bentley Mission Critical’s modular data center products, including structural frames, enclosures, skids, platforms, electrical rooms, and supporting infrastructure. This position translates customer blueprints and engineering requirements into accurate SolidWorks models that can be fabricated efficiently on our shop floor.

This role is built around Design for Manufacturing. Every model and drawing must be buildable, standardized, and designed to support Lean Manufacturing and one-piece flow through cutting, forming, welding, and assembly — so production builds it right the first time, on time, every time.

Performance Metrics

  • First-Pass Drawing Accuracy (Right First Time)
  • On-Time Drawing Release
  • Design-Related Shop Rework & RFI Reduction
  • Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) per Project
  • Design Hours vs. Estimate
  • Material Utilization & Scrap Reduction
  • Part Standardization & Library Reuse
  • DFM Improvements Implemented
  • Quality Escapes/NCRs Attributed to Design
  • Support of One-Piece Flow & Production Throughput

*Must be 18 years or older to apply*

Key Responsibilities

SolidWorks 3D Modeling – Data Center Products

  • Create detailed 3D part models, large assemblies, and weldments in SolidWorks for modular data center structures, enclosures, skids, platforms, and related components.
  • Build top-level and sub-level assemblies that accurately represent the complete data center product for fabrication, assembly, and installation.
  • Produce fabrication-ready drawings including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T where required, weld symbols, BOMs, cut lists, and sheet metal flat patterns.
  • Maintain clean model structure, file naming, configurations, and revision control per department standards.
  • Develop and maintain a library of standard parts, templates, and reusable design components.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

  • Ensure every model and drawing can be fabricated with our available equipment, processes, materials, and tooling.
  • Design sheet metal, structural steel, and welded components with correct bend allowances, material thicknesses, hole patterns, and weld access.
  • Reduce part count, material waste, cutting and welding time, and assembly complexity through design.
  • Standardize components and hardware across projects to simplify purchasing, inventory, and production.
  • Work directly with fabrication and production teams to resolve build issues and incorporate shop feedback.

Lean Manufacturing & One-Piece Flow

  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to eliminate waste (overprocessing, motion, waiting, rework, and defects) at the design stage.
  • Design parts and assemblies that move through production in one-piece flow, minimizing batching and work-in-process.
  • Develop modular, sequenced assemblies aligned with production cells and takt time.
  • Participate in Kaizen events, value stream mapping, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support visual work instructions, assembly sequences, and exploded views for the shop floor.

Blueprint Review & Interpretation

  • Read, review, and interpret engineering blueprints, architectural and structural drawings, customer specifications, and vendor submittals.
  • Translate customer drawings and requirements into accurate SolidWorks models and fabrication packages.
  • Perform design checks for dimensions, fit, interferences, tolerances, and constructability before release to production.
  • Identify discrepancies or missing information and communicate them through RFIs to engineering leadership and customers.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with Development, Sales, Customer, and Production & Support Engineering to meet project schedules.
  • Support engineering change orders (ECOs), revisions, and as-built documentation.
  • Communicate clearly with engineers, fabricators, installers, and customers in English.

Physical Demands

The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in an indoor office setting at a computer workstation for extended periods, with regular time on the manufacturing shop floor to review fabrication and assembly. Required PPE must be worn on the shop floor.

Benefits

Offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Life and disability Insurance

Benefits may vary based on employment classification and hours worked.

  • Minimum 5 years of SolidWorks 3D design experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Engineering background: degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field, or equivalent engineering experience.
  • Advanced SolidWorks proficiency: parts, large assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, configurations, and detailed drawings.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of SolidWorks projects (portfolio required with application).
  • Strong Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) knowledge — models that can be fabricated.
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge with a strong one-piece flow mentality.
  • Proven ability to review and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken.

  • Data center or mission-critical infrastructure design experience.
  • Spanish is a plus (bilingual English/Spanish).
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
  • SolidWorks PDM experience and/or CSWP/CSWE certification.
  • Experience with nesting software and CNC, laser, or plasma cutting workflows.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and AWS welding symbols; familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit.
