Description:

About Bentley Mission Critical

Bentley Mission Critical manufactures factory-built infrastructure for the world’s most demanding data centers. From our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in Greeley, Colorado, we engineer, fabricate, and test complete modular data center systems — pre-integrating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a controlled factory environment to deliver projects 30–50% faster than traditional construction. Our customers include hyperscale, AI/GPU compute, colocation, and enterprise data center operators. We don’t build projects — we manufacture products, and we do it quality-driven, on time, every time.

We are growing fast, and our people are the reason. This role exists to make sure that as we scale, we stay a place where skilled, motivated people want to build their careers.

Position Summary

The Senior Drafter is responsible for turning engineering designs into accurate, shop-ready drawings and for improving how our products flow through the factory. This position builds high-level SolidWorks models and fabrication blueprints for modular data center structures, enclosures, skids, and equipment — including weldments, sheet metal, mechanical assemblies, and routing — designed from the start for manufacturability.

This role sits between Engineering and the production floor. It provides daily production support, resolves drawing and fit-up issues, and leads Lean Manufacturing implementations with a strong focus on one-piece flow. The position works directly with engineers, customers, supervisors, and fabricators.

Performance Metrics

  • Drawing Release On-Time (to production schedule)
  • Drawing Accuracy / First-Pass Yield
  • Drawing-Related Rework & NCR Reduction
  • Shop RFI Response Time
  • Engineering Change Order (ECO) Cycle Time
  • One-Piece Flow Cells Implemented
  • Lead Time & WIP Reduction
  • Labor Hours per Unit
  • Material Utilization / Scrap Reduction
  • 5S & Standard Work Adherence
  • Customer Satisfaction

*Must be 18 years or older to apply*

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Design for Manufacturability

  • Create high-level SolidWorks 3D models, assemblies, and 2D fabrication drawings for modular data center products.
  • Design every drawing to be buildable: correct tolerances, bend allowances, weld access, standard stock sizes, and minimal scrap.
  • Produce complete drawing packages with title blocks, revisions, BOMs, balloons, detail and section views, and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Generate cut lists, DXF flat patterns, and nesting inputs that feed Purchasing and Production directly.

SolidWorks Modeling – Weldments, Sheet Metal, Mechanical & Routing

  • Build weldment models with correct structural members, end treatments, cut lists, and AWS A2.4 weld symbols.
  • Build sheet metal parts with accurate flat patterns, K-factors, bend tables, and forming tools for laser, punch, and press brake.
  • Model routing for piping, tubing, conduit, and electrical harnesses with clean, buildable paths.
  • Manage large assemblies, configurations, design tables, and drawing templates to company standards.

Production Support

  • Serve as first point of contact for drawing and fabrication questions on the production floor.
  • Resolve fit-up, tolerance, and interference issues quickly and correct the source models.
  • Walk the floor daily, gather fabricator feedback, and turn it into design improvements.
  • Support first-article builds, prototypes, new product introductions, and FAT activities.

Lean Manufacturing & One-Piece Flow

  • Lead one-piece flow implementations, converting batch-and-queue processes into continuous-flow cells.
  • Design cell layouts, workstations, fixtures, jigs, and kitting carts in SolidWorks to support flow.
  • Map current- and future-state value streams; identify waste, bottlenecks, and excess WIP.
  • Calculate takt time, cycle time, and line balance; develop standard work for each station.
  • Implement 5S, visual management, poka-yoke, SMED, and kanban where they support flow.
  • Lead kaizen events and measure results in lead time, WIP, throughput, and labor hours.

Documentation & Change Control

  • Manage drawing revisions and engineering change orders with full traceability.
  • Maintain drafting standards, templates, and libraries.
  • Write clear work instructions and train production teams on new standard work.

Physical Demands

The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment: Work is split between an indoor office setting (CAD workstation) and the manufacturing floor, where the employee is exposed to moderate noise, welding and fabrication activity, and must wear required PPE. The position requires standing and walking the floor for extended periods and occasionally lifting up to 25 lbs. Occasional travel to fabrication partners or installation sites may be required.

Benefits

Offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Life and disability Insurance

Benefits may vary based on employment classification and hours worked.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Bentley Mission Critical is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Requirements:

Required

  • 5+ years of drafting or design experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced SolidWorks skills with demonstrated work in weldments, sheet metal, routing, large assemblies, and mechanical design.
  • Demonstrated fabrication blueprints released to production and built successfully, with a design-for-manufacturability focus.
  • Demonstrated one-piece flow implementation, with at least one completed project showing measurable results.
  • Working knowledge of Lean tools: value stream mapping, takt time, standard work, 5S, and kaizen.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T and AWS A2.4 welding symbols.
  • Understanding of fabrication processes: cutting, bending, welding, machining, and assembly.

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
  • CSWA, CSWP, or CSWE certification (Weldments or Sheet Metal specialty a plus).
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher).
  • Experience in modular data center, HVAC, electrical enclosure, or skid fabrication.
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM, ERP/MRP systems, and nesting software.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Demonstrated Experience (submit with application)

  • Portfolio of 3–5 released fabrication drawings covering weldments, sheet metal, and a mechanical assembly (redacted as needed).
  • One SolidWorks sample showing routing or a large assembly.
  • One one-piece flow case study showing the before state, the change made, and measured results.
  • Shortlisted candidates complete a SolidWorks practical test as part of the interview process.
