About This Position
General Description:
The responsibility of the sacristan will be to prepare liturgical ministers, spaces and artifacts for the celebration of the sacred mysteries and manage all details pertaining to the daily round of liturgy in the parish church.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise Sunday Sacristans, Altar Servers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Ministers of Hospitality, Altar Guild, and Floral Arts Guild, assisting with training and formation.
- Be present for or provide for delegated presence at all liturgies on The Lord’s Day, Solemnities, funerals, and other parish liturgies and events as needed and as supervisory duties require.
- Maintain good order in sacristies, sanctuary, nave, chapels, and narthex, as the worship of God, stewardship and hospitality require.
- Ensure the timely procurements, cleaning, maintenance, and replacement of all liturgical books, vessels, vestments, altar bread and wine, candles, oils, and holy water.
- Assist with administrative tasks related to sacramental celebrations.
- Assist with logistics for weekly, monthly, seasonal and occasional sacramental formation events.
- Participate as a member of the parish staff, ministry area staff, and clergy-staff liturgy team.
- Participate in annual and seasonal planning of calendars, schedules, ritual patterns, and special events.
- Assist in the development and administration of the parish budget for liturgy and sacraments.
- Model hospitality for all liturgical ministers.
Qualifications required:
Practicing Catholic in good standing; minimum of bachelor’s degree and/or relevant knowledge and experience; familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgical economy and tradition; working knowledge of liturgical documents, books, rubrics, and artifacts; strong organization and communication skills; competency in the use of standard computer applications, and capacity to master and oversee the use of Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP).
