Christ the King Jesuit College Prep - Corporate Work Study Overview

Christ the King Jesuit College Prep, through the Cristo Rey Network model, prepares young men and women from Chicago's West Side to be leaders and agents of change through the integration of college preparatory study, work experience, extracurricular activities, and service. Through participation in the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP), our students earn up to 60% of their education costs and they develop the skills and gain the experiences necessary for college and career success.

CWSP Van Operator/Driver Position Overview

The CWSP Van Operator/Driver drives a Pace van or CTK shuttle and safely, professionally, proficiently transports students to and from their Corporate Work Study jobs each day and performs activities related to the operation of a van or shuttle. This is a part-time seasonal position that begins each year in mid to late August and ends each year at the end of May or beginning of June. The position is scheduled Monday – Thursday with two shifts each day. Shift times are approximate, as they may vary based on the number of students present each day and traffic conditions. The first shift is from approximately 7:30am to approximately 10:00am and the second shift is from approximately 2:30pm to approximately 5:30pm. Compensation for the position is $19.00 per hour.

Primary Responsibilities

• Drive student workers from the school to their job placements in the morning
• Ensure a welcoming, orderly, appropriate, and professional van environment
• Drive student workers from their work placements back to the school in the afternoon/evening
• Other duties as assigned by the CWSP Operations Manager

Student Transport

• Ensure student workers are dropped off at the correct location by watching students walk into the building of their assigned work placement
• Assist student workers into/from vehicles as needed
• Maintain accurate knowledge of assigned routes and stops. Keep a log of stop locations with details on the specific location students are dropped off and picked up.
• Practice routes as needed to ensure that the route runs smoothly each day.
• Ensure a welcoming, orderly, appropriate, and professional van environment.
• Always be in full charge of the van and address student behavior concerns as needed

Van/Shuttle Operation

• Follow the assigned route sheet without variation
• Adhere to all rules of the road and safety rules when loading or unloading student workers
• Check vehicle for safe operating conditions and submit completed, signed vehicle inspection form daily (conduct a pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection including tires, gas, battery, oil, antifreeze/coolant, and vehicle fluids)

Van/Shuttle Upkeep

• Ensure the van or shuttle has more than enough gas for each route and fill the assigned van as needed.
• Ensure the van/shuttle is free of garbage at the end of each route.
• Bring any student items left on the bus to the CWSP office at the end of every route.
• Check, clean and perform minor servicing of assigned vehicle
• Take van/shuttle for cleaning and service as requested by Operations Manager.

Reporting

• Prepare and submit required reports and completed trip logs daily
• Report all issues of student behavior and policy violations through the Google form at the end of every shift.
• Report any concerns related to the condition of the van or shuttle to the Operations Manager promptly

Additional Responsibilities

• Exercise good judgment in the performance of job responsibilities and work without direct supervision.
• Engage positively with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries
• Communicate effectively with children and CWSP staff.
• Comply with rules set in school, federal, state and local policies and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent.
• Hold and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious moving violations (must be insurable with a good driving record)
• Have a minimum of 3 years previous safe driving experience
• Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
• Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, administration, parents, business partners, and the community
• Be reliable and dependable, attending work each day and being on time for each shift.
