POSITION DESCRIPTION: Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Chiropractic Program (DCP), Department of Community Health Services and Rehabilitation Science, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.

CONTENT AREA: Applicants with a focus on student instruction in small group and laboratory settings related to Foundational and Chiropractic Sciences courses of the DCP curriculum. The position additionally involves hands-on instruction related to the diagnosis and management of spinal and extraspinal disorders prevalent in contemporary chiropractic practice.

Instruction is aimed at introducing and developing the knowledge, skills, clinical reasoning, and professionalism necessary for graduating students to function as evidence-based, primary spine and musculoskeletal practitioners in different clinical settings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach/Instruct/Facilitate: Assist in the instruction of the diagnosis and management of spinal and extraspinal disorders prevalent in contemporary chiropractic practice in small group and laboratory settings. Assist in courses across the curriculum, including but not limited to foundational sciences and those focused on spinal manipulation, rehabilitation, and soft tissue mobilization. Foster active student participation and engagement in learning activities.

Assessments/Evaluations: Assist in administering and evaluating student laboratory examinations for the purposes of assigning student grades.

Other: Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Chiropractic degree program.

• Active practice experience within the last 5 years.

• Pennsylvania chiropractic and adjunctive procedures licenses (or the ability to acquire such licensure upon hire).

Preferred Work Experiences and Qualifications:

• Previous experience teaching, mentoring, or precepting chiropractic students

• Board certification in sports chiropractic, orthopedics, and/or rehabilitation

• Master’s or other graduate degree in addition to a DC degree

• Formal training in end-range loading assessment and treatment, soft tissue mobilization, spinal manipulation, and extraspinal manipulation

• Primary Spine Practitioner (PSP) Certification

• Active practice in a SHRS affiliated clinical setting

• Teaching experience of courses directly related to those mentioned in Duties and Responsibilities

• Formal training in evidence-based medicine/practice

• Available to assist with student instruction at least four hours per day, two days per week

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess the ability to demonstrate hands-on manual therapies and sufficient motor function to perform hands-on diagnostic maneuvers.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for sustained periods, up to 4 hours, while providing instruction in a lab setting.

• Be able to move about the classroom and lab to engage with and assist students with various activities.

• Detects, observes, and assesses student psychomotor skills. This includes the ability to inspect both near and far distances to ensure student safety and proper technique.

• Operates, adjusts, and controls instructional tables and equipment as required by lab activities.
