About the Role:
- Under direct supervision of a physician, performs a variety of clinical responsibilities to assist in the examination and treatment of patients. Performs other functions to support hospital and departmental requirements. Works proactively and in partnership with other staff contributing to effective operations.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Provides assistance and preparation prior to and during examination by health care providers.
- Prepares examination/treatment rooms for examinations of patients by properly positioning instruments, equipment and supplies.
- Interviews patient to obtain reasons for visit such as nature of complaint, physical problems, symptoms of illness, etc.
- Prepares patient for examination by performing various routine physical assessments such as vital signs, height, weight, blood pressure, etc.
- Prepares and assists health care provider during examination and procedures.
- Maintains logs for refrigerator temperature (medications and specimens) and weekly exam room cleaning.
- Maintains timely monitoring and documentation (tracking) of physician ordered laboratory tests, radiology, ultrasound, etc. Performs point of care testing according to departmental protocols and follows OSHA guidelines in obtaining and handling specimens.
- Administers medication by oral, intramuscular or subcutaneous routes under physician order.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Completion of Medical Assistant curriculum, HS Diploma/GED preferred
- Experience: Prior Medical Assistant experience
- License/Certifications: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR
