Position Overview
We are seeking a Controls Project Manager with strong controls, project management, and design engineering experience to support a data center project in Burlington, TX. This role works closely with the Owner’s team, General Contractor, subcontractors, vendors, and commissioning teams to ensure controls design intent, quality, schedule, and project requirements are met.
This position is ideal for someone who can bridge technical control design, field execution, and project management. The Controls Project Manager will support design reviews, identify field-to-design conflicts, coordinate issue resolution, track project deliverables, and help drive commissioning and turnover activities to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Support controls design reviews and validate design against project requirements, specifications, and standards
- Provide owner-side oversight for controls-related construction, startup, commissioning, and turnover activities
- Coordinate with the Owner, General Contractor, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and commissioning teams
- Identify controls design issues, field conflicts, incomplete work, and commissioning constraints
- Track and drive resolution of punch list items, deficiencies, NCRs, observations, and open issues
- Support project planning, schedule coordination, milestone tracking, and status reporting
- Review commissioning documentation, test records, turnover packages, and QA/QC documents for completeness
- Perform field walks to verify installation quality, commissioning readiness, and turnover status
- Support FAT, SAT, startup, functional testing, integrated systems testing, and owner acceptance activities
- Provide clear field reports, weekly updates, quality observations, and project status summaries
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical field
- Experience in controls project management, controls engineering, design engineering, commissioning, or related technical project execution
- Strong understanding of controls systems, design intent, construction execution, and commissioning processes
- Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, design documents, commissioning records, and technical documentation
- Project management experience, including schedule coordination, issue tracking, reporting, stakeholder communication, and milestone follow-up
- Ability to coordinate contractors, vendors, engineers, commissioning teams, and owner representatives
- Strong communication, documentation, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify technical risks, escalate constraints, and drive open items to closure
- PE license not required
- Must meet criteria to be recognized as a Subject Matter Expert, SME, with a clearly established engineering function
Preferred Qualifications
- Data center or mission-critical facility experience
- Owner’s Representative or client-facing project experience
- Experience with controls commissioning, integrated systems testing, QA/QC, and turnover processes
- Familiarity with project controls, issue tracking, commissioning platforms, or construction documentation tools
