Description:

Auto Liability Claims Adjuster

Location: Murray, Utah
Work Arrangement: In-Office

About the Role

We're looking for an Auto Liability Claims Adjuster to join Bear River Mutual Insurance. As an Auto Liability Claims Adjuster, you'll manage Personal Lines Auto claims through the full claim lifecycle, including investigation, coverage analysis, liability evaluation, damage assessment, negotiation, and resolution. You'll play an important role in helping policyholders, claimants, attorneys, witnesses, and other claim participants navigate the claims process with professionalism, clarity, and sound judgment.

Success in this role isn't measured simply by closing claims, it's measured by the quality of your decisions, the strength of your investigations, and your ability to resolve claims fairly, efficiently, and in alignment with applicable coverage, facts, and jurisdictional considerations.

This position is based in Murray, Utah. At Bear River Mutual, we value in-person collaboration and believe some of our best work happens when teams communicate closely, support one another, and work together to serve our policyholders.

What You'll Be Responsible For
  • Analyze coverage, determine liability, and evaluate damages on Personal Lines Auto claims.
  • Conduct thorough investigations using applicable insurance principles, statutory requirements, case law, and jurisdictional considerations.
  • Evaluate claim exposures and develop appropriate strategies for fair and cost-effective resolution.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with insureds, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, and other claim participants by phone, email, text, and regular mail.
  • Actively listen to those involved in an accident, ask thoughtful questions, and obtain recorded statements when appropriate.
  • Conduct resourceful and thorough investigations to assess accident liability and determine whether coverage applies.
  • Document all pertinent file activity with clear, meaningful, and defensible claim notes.
  • Ask challenging questions and handle difficult conversations with confidence, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Manage a complex caseload while balancing organization, prioritization, timeliness, and quality.
  • Work closely with cross-functional departments, including Total Loss, Appraisal, Bodily Injury, and Subrogation, to support seamless and high-quality claims handling.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, accountability, and professionalism while contributing positively to a team environment.
Success in This Role

In this role, you'll:

  • Take ownership of claim strategy, decisions, and outcomes.
  • Actively shape the outcome of a claim by exercising sound judgment, ownership, and leadership throughout the claim lifecycle.
  • Use critical thinking to question assumptions, analyze risk, and provide clear guidance.
  • Resolve claims through thoughtful investigation, strong evaluation, and effective negotiation.
  • Communicate with confidence, empathy, and professionalism in a variety of claim situations.
  • Build trusted working relationships with teammates and cross-functional partners.
  • Maintain strong file quality through accurate documentation and defensible claim decisions.
  • Balance urgency with judgment while managing competing priorities and complex claim activity.
  • Contribute to a team environment built on accountability, adaptability, collaboration, and service.
About You
  • You Put People First: You treat others with dignity and respect, listen carefully, and communicate with professionalism, empathy, and care.
  • You Stay Connected: You collaborate effectively with teammates and cross-functional departments, share information appropriately, and recognize the value of working together toward quality claim outcomes.
  • You Are Accountable: You take ownership of your files, exercise sound judgment, and follow through on commitments. You can be counted on to do what you say you'll do.
  • You Deliver Service: You understand that claims handling directly affects policyholders, claimants, agents, and business partners. You work to provide prompt, dependable, and fair service throughout the claim process.
  • You Value Relationships: You build trust through clear communication, active listening, and professional interactions with insureds, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, and colleagues.
  • You Care About Quality: You take pride in accurate investigations, thoughtful evaluations, clear documentation, and defensible claim decisions.
  • You Balance Urgency with Judgment: You know when to move quickly and when to slow down, ask more questions, validate assumptions, and make thoughtful decisions.
  • You Embrace Continuous Improvement: You look for opportunities to improve your claim handling, strengthen your technical knowledge, and contribute to better team processes.
  • You Are Adaptable: You remain professional and flexible when priorities shift, claim facts evolve, or new information changes the direction of a file.
  • You Balance Experience with Curiosity: Whether you're bringing years of claims experience or continuing to build your expertise, you're committed to learning, asking good questions, and adapting as the industry, regulations, and business needs evolve.
