Job Summary
The Senior Welding Inspector is a more experienced welding inspector having performed welding and structural steel inspection and maintained their American Welding Society (AWS) certified welding inspector (CWI) status for at least five years. This inspector acts as the supervising welding inspector for complicated projects which include both visual and non-destructive testing of welds.
The Senior Welding Inspector has a minimum of seven years’ experience in the field of welding and/or inspection of structural steel within the commercial, public works, and industrial sectors.
The Senior Welding Inspector inspects materials and observes activities associated with construction of buildings, structures, and fabrication of machines to ensure the procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Welding Inspector must be of high moral character, reputable, and conduct his/her affairs above reproach. He/she must also:
· have developed discernment capabilities through knowledge and experience;
· be able to communicate problematic situations concerning both workmanship and/or materials directly to the professional in charge;
· be familiar with industry standards such as ASTM, AWS, AISC, ASME, etc., and be able to follow written test procedures;
· perform duties of various assignments and complete complex reports with minimum supervision and assistance; and be able to read and interpret project plans and specifications;
· have the ability to perform both welding and structural steel inspection to include structural bolting;
· be familiar with the requirements of non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic, magnetic particle, dye penetration, and radiological testing of welds.
· hold a current certified welding inspector (CWI) from the AWS.
· perform duties of various assignments and complete complex reports with a minimum of supervision and assistance.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Senior Welding Inspector may supervise other welding inspectors or subcontracted service providers, if required.

Requirements:Qualifications and Skills
· High school diploma or GED; technical degree or trade school education is a plus.
· Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification with a focus in D1.1.
· A minimum of five years’ experience in AISC practices including RCSC bolt testing and inspection
· Knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, etc.).
· Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, etc.).
· Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and report writing.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
· Physical ability to work in various environments including heights, confined spaces, and outdoors.
· NDT certifications (MT, PT, UT, RT) a plus.
· OSHA 10 or 30-hour safety training.
· Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWICTM) Card.
· Valid state driver’s license.
