Overview
This position is within the Focus Factory Engineering department and will be primarily located on site at the BAE Focus Factory in Jacksonville, Florida. The primary responsibility of this position is to analyze and troubleshoot construction issues during deck fabrication and outfitting for both the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class Submarines.
As the Design Yard, this position will have the technical authority over all construction, on or related to submarines deck manufacturing, that occurs at BAE. As a member of this department, engineers are required to provide technical resolutions for a wide variety of complex construction issues, which may require shop or shipboard investigation on units and decks under various stages of construction.
Specific to this position, the candidate will be responsible for adjudicating construction and vendor technical issues with varying levels of urgency and severity. These construction issues will most commonly deal with structural deviations, requiring the candidate to have proficient knowledge and strong technical understanding of welding and NDT requirements/procedures, as well as basic structural analysis and concepts. The majority of work will be centered on troubleshooting mistakes during construction, fixing design deficiencies and evaluating material discrepancies, while attempting to avoid adversely affecting an aggressive construction schedule and ensuring technical and structural adequacy is maintained.
The chosen engineer will routinely interface with Trades at BAE, construction and machine shop foreman, and engineering to ensure development of timely resolutions that support construction. Interfacing with EB cognizant engineering, materials, planning, welding, shock and analysis departments will also be required on a regular basis, as numerous products will require review from other departments. Candidate must possess strong written and verbal skills, as well as be able to work and communicate in a highly professional manner with Program Office personnel, management, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SoS) and the Government (NAVSEA). Time flexibility is required as the work load fluctuates based on construction schedule and can require occasional extended hours and/or weekend work.
As this position will primarily focus on CLB construction, it will require significant use of Teamcenter. Experience in this program is desirable; however, is not required.
