Mid/Senior Backend Engineer in Ireland, Scotland at Jobgether

This role sits at the core of a fast-growing fintech building modern banking infrastructure for international businesses. You will work on highly critical systems enabling companies to access EU banking services, manage payments, and operate globally through a unified platform. The engineering environment is senior, collaborative, and product-driven, with a strong emphasis on ownership and technical excellence. You will contribute to the evolution of a payments orchestration and corporate banking product, including new features such as corporate card issuance. The team is small, experienced, and focused on solving complex financial and regulatory challenges. Expect meaningful autonomy, high impact, and direct influence on architecture and product decisions.

• Design and build backend services for corporate card issuance and management, including roles, permissions, and access control
• Integrate with banking providers, AML systems, and payment networks (SEPA, SWIFT, card systems) to ensure compliant financial flows
• Translate third-party API documentation into technical architecture and implementation plans
• Participate in product and engineering decisions across the full lifecycle (RFC, PRD, development, production)
• Improve system performance, scalability, and observability using tools such as Kafka, RPC frameworks, logging, and monitoring systems
• Ensure high engineering quality through unit/functional testing, secure coding practices, and CI/CD automation
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, platform) to deliver end-to-end user experiences

• 2+ years of backend development experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL or MySQL)
• Experience writing unit and functional tests (Jest, Vitest, Cypress, or similar)
• Experience building or integrating complex distributed systems
• Strong ownership mindset: able to drive features independently from design to production
• Clear communication skills with ability to explain and defend technical decisions
• Business-oriented mindset focused on delivering value, not just code
• Nice to have: experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS)
• Nice to have: familiarity with fintech, payments, or crypto systems
