The Assistant Director for Social Media will play a key role in capturing and sharing the pulse of Bentley University’s vibrant campus life. From “behind the scenes” videos to live coverage of events, this role will bring the everyday energy of Bentley to life across our social media platforms. As a key member of the Strategic Communications team reporting to the Associate Director for Social Media, you’ll collaborate with creators across the university to show the authentic story of what makes Bentley one of the top business universities in the country and a great place to live, learn and grow.

Essential Duties:

  • Plan, create and post engaging, authentic content for the university’s social media channels with a focus on platform-native, short-form videos and photos that can be completed and posted quickly on tight deadlines (especially for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube shorts).

  • Attend and provide live digital “behind the scenes” and other coverage of on-campus events to showcase our buzzing campus life.

  • Interact easily with students, faculty and staff to help them feel comfortable on camera.

  • Contribute to creative brainstorming sessions with story ideas based on what you're hearing on campus.

  • Stay up to date on cultural and social media trends and suggest new approaches to help stay ahead of the curve.

  • Work with and coach student employees and social media ambassadors, helping them refine their ideas, develop compelling story angles and create fresh content.

  • Track performance of social posts and contribute to the growth in engagement and audience across channels.

  • Write original captions for social media posts and author occasional short articles for the university’s website.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree.

  • Ability to create fun, interesting videos and other social media content (shooting/editing social media-appropriate videos and photos).

  • Sound judgment and strong understanding of appropriate content based on best practices, brand guidelines and audience on different platforms.

  • Comfortable with video-editing tools such as CapCut and other platform-native video editing tools.

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in social media, video creation, or other highly relevant experience (may include an internship or work-study job in college).

  • Comfortable and confident on camera.

  • Basic graphic design skills with Canva or other tools.

  • Ability to find and tell interesting stories.

  • Flexible schedule including some nights and weekends to accommodate in-person coverage of on-campus events.

  • Ability to travel around campus to cover events and attend meetings.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, share ideas, and collaborate with colleagues in Strategic Communications and across the university to build relationships and uncover great stories.

  • Strong writing and editing skills to produce clear, compelling copy.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to travel to campus and local community at times during weekends and evenings to capture content.

  • Flexible schedule including some nights and weekends to accommodate in-person coverage of on-campus events.

  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.

Note:

  • We do not expect every candidate to be equally skilled in all of these areas, and this is not a complete list of all relevant qualifications that applicants might have. Reaching talent across a range of backgrounds and experiences is important to us. If you’re excited about this role, but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles.
