Job Description

Description:

The Steel Erection Project Manager is responsible for the successful execution of assigned steel erection projects from estimating and contract award through completion and closeout. This position manages project schedule, budget, scope, quality, risk, procurement, and client relationships while coordinating closely with field operations, subcontractors, vendors, fabricators, and general contractors.

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction professional who understands structural steel, estimating, and commercial construction; takes ownership of project outcomes; communicates effectively; and proactively solves problems before they impact the project.

This is a remote job that requires travel to job sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the estimating and preconstruction process by reviewing plans, specifications, scopes, and project requirements.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs, labor and material pricing, subcontractor and vendor quotes, and development of competitive project estimates.
  • Review project scope and identify potential risks, exclusions, scope gaps, and constructability concerns during estimating and preconstruction.
  • Assist with project turnover from estimating to operations, ensuring project scope, budget, schedule, assumptions, and commitments are clearly communicated.
  • Manage steel erection projects from contract award through final completion and closeout.
  • Deliver projects on time, within budget, within scope, and to required quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, procurement plans, and risk registers.
  • Review and understand structural steel drawings, blueprints, specifications, and project documents.
  • Identify discrepancies, constructability concerns, and scope gaps; prepare and submit RFIs as needed.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, clients, engineers, detailers, fabricators, subcontractors, vendors, and field leadership.
  • Manage subcontractor and vendor scopes, proposals, procurement, and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor project costs, commitments, changes, and financial performance.
  • Identify and manage change orders and scope changes to protect project profitability.
  • Lead project meetings and maintain clear, professional communication with all stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify project risks, resolve issues, and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Work closely with field teams to ensure projects are properly planned and executed.
  • Ensure project documentation, punch lists, warranties, and closeout requirements are completed.
  • Build strong client and subcontractor relationships and promote continuous improvement.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial construction project management or estimating experience preferred.
  • Experience with structural steel, steel erection, metal building systems, or related construction strongly preferred.
  • Experience with both construction estimating and project management preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction processes and project management.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor and vendor pricing, RFIs, submittals, change orders, project schedules, budgets, and subcontractor management.
  • Strong understanding of project costs, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, delegation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve issues proactively.
