Job Description

What you need to know about this position:
- Healthy Communities provides job training for this position after interviewing and determining if you are most qualified for the position.
- Make contact with the birthing person prior to delivery to learn about birth plans and to introduce comfort techniques. The doula will also be on call two weeks prior to each birth to answer questions and support the mom.
- Assist client with completing and returning necessary paperwork.
- Meet the client in early labor or when client desires, and provide continuous physical and emotional support throughout labor and birth using a variety of techniques to comfort the client and assist the client with relaxation.
- Provide assistance in the establishment of breastfeeding immediately following the birth of the baby.
- Contact family, by phone or in a visit within the first week following the birth of the baby, as well as a phone call one month after the birth of the baby to check in on the family, screen for postpartum depression, safe sleep for the baby, and to provide evidence-based information and resources to support mom and baby.
- Make referral to postpartum doula if necessary.
- Hours vary between Part time and PRN
What is required for this position:
Education and/or Experience:
- High school education or General Education Degree (GED) highly recommended.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid Indiana driver’s license required along with reliable transportation.
- Must meet the hospital's liability insurance carrier requirements.
- This position will require frequent standing, walking, and use of upper extremities to assist with physical care techniques to support mom.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and up to 50 lbs.
- Have valid US work permit.
Other:
- Flexible weekly schedule.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both staff and clients.
- Ability to actively listen to client, show empathy, and non-verbal awareness of needs. Be able to remain calm and professional at all times.
- Ability to build trust and understanding clients.
