This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Regional Transportation Manager based in India.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership opportunity to build and scale an APAC transportation function from the ground up.
You will establish regional processes, carrier networks, operating standards, and a high-performing team across a rapidly expanding data center footprint.
The role focuses on air freight and road transportation for high-value, time-sensitive IT hardware across key APAC markets.
You will oversee critical shipments involving GPUs, server racks, servers, and other data center equipment, ensuring reliable and damage-free delivery.
Working closely with procurement, logistics, engineering, finance, security, and data center operations, you will align transportation execution with deployment priorities.
The position combines strategic planning, operational problem-solving, compliance, cost optimization, and team leadership in a fast-moving environment.
It is ideal for an experienced logistics leader with a builder mindset who is comfortable creating scalable operations where established processes are still being developed.
- Establish and lead the APAC transportation function, developing processes, workflows, carrier networks, operating standards, and regional playbooks from the ground up.
- Build and manage the regional transportation team, defining roles, responsibilities, hiring plans, and development priorities as operations scale.
- Oversee end-to-end air freight and road transportation of high-value IT hardware, including GPUs, server racks, servers, and data center equipment.
- Manage shipments originating in Taiwan and moving to key APAC destinations such as India, Malaysia, Japan, and additional markets, including reverse logistics where required.
- Coordinate freight schedules, carrier and freight-forwarder selection, delivery execution, and inbound transportation to data center sites.
- Manage RMA and RMS shipments across the region, coordinating with vendors, carriers, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely processing.
- Maintain visibility across active shipments, proactively resolving delays, exceptions, and transit issues while developing contingency routes and business continuity plans.
- Coordinate with data center operations to support staging, buffering, and just-in-time hardware deployment.
- Maintain accurate in-transit inventory and chain-of-custody documentation, ensuring shipment records remain complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
- Manage transportation documentation, customs clearance, import/export processes, duties, taxes, and trade compliance requirements across APAC markets.
- Process and reconcile logistics invoices and transportation payments while monitoring regional logistics expenditure.
- Establish secure shipment protocols in partnership with security teams to protect high-value hardware throughout transportation.
- Define and manage SLAs and KPIs with carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PL partners, conducting regular performance reviews and driving accountability.
- Partner with hardware engineering, procurement, finance, data center operations, OEM suppliers, and global transportation leadership to align logistics execution with business priorities.
- Forecast transportation demand based on data center expansion, hardware deployment schedules, and regional capacity requirements.
- Build and negotiate the regional carrier and freight-forwarder network, identifying opportunities for carrier consolidation, routing improvements, and cost optimization.
- Drive continuous improvement through KPI analysis, root-cause investigation, operational reporting, process standardization, and data-driven decision-making.
- Recruit, onboard, mentor, and develop the regional team while maintaining hands-on involvement in day-to-day operations during the build phase.
- 7+ years of experience in transportation, freight, or logistics management, including at least 3 years in a management or team leadership capacity.
- Proven experience building or significantly scaling a transportation or logistics function, preferably within a greenfield or high-growth environment.
- Deep expertise in air freight and road transportation across APAC, with strong knowledge of key lanes involving Taiwan, India, Malaysia, and Japan.
- Hands-on experience managing high-value, time-critical IT hardware shipments such as server racks, GPUs, servers, or data center equipment.
- Strong understanding of customs regulations, import/export procedures, duties, taxes, and trade compliance across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated experience managing, negotiating with, and evaluating carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PL providers across the region.
- Hands-on experience with RMA/RMS processes and reverse logistics operations.
- Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems, Jira, or comparable platforms used for shipment tracking and documentation.
- Excellent organizational, documentation, and analytical skills, with a strong focus on accuracy and operational visibility.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams in a global environment.
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced and ambiguous setting with limited established processes; a strong builder mindset is essential.
- Based in the APAC region, with Taiwan preferred due to the primary shipping origin, although other APAC locations may be considered.
- Fluency in English is required; Mandarin or other regional languages are a strong advantage.
- Experience in a hyperscaler, cloud provider, or large-scale data center environment is a plus.
- Familiarity with ATA Carnet and temporary import/export processes for repair and return shipments is advantageous.
- Background in supply chain analytics, reporting, continuous improvement, physical security, or expansion into additional APAC markets such as Indonesia, South Korea, or Singapore is beneficial.
