Job Description
The Position
As an FAA Certified Part 145 Repair Station, Hillsboro Aviation provides comprehensive maintenance and avionics services for a wide array of aircraft. From privately owned airplanes and helicopters to fixed and rotor-wing fleet operators; our clientele encompasses private, commercial, and government sectors. Our full-service facility in Hillsboro, Oregon supports scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications and upgrades, avionics, and AOG emergencies. Our factory-trained mechanics and avionics technicians boast an average of over 20 years of experience.
As the Service Center Manager, you will report to the Director of Service Center and FBO and will be responsible for leading the service center’s maintenance and avionics divisions, including quality, safety, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, employee development, and financial performance. This role oversees service center avionics but is not responsible for fleet avionics.
Ideal candidates are experienced aircraft maintenance leaders who pair strong business and financial acumen with a proven ability to build and motivate high-performing teams, all while maintaining a critical eye for quality, safety, and detail.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Additional hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to maintain our commitments and keep the shop’s schedule in balance. Less than 10% travel is expected for this position.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the daily operations of the service center’s maintenance and avionics divisions, ensuring all work meets FAA regulations, the Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, AS9110 standards, and company safety policies.
- Own the budget and P&L for both divisions, monitoring labor and parts margins, controlling costs, and driving profitable, sustainable growth.
- Lead, coach, and develop the maintenance and avionics teams, setting clear expectations and supporting training and certification.
- Plan capacity and manage scheduling to maximize hangar and technician utilization and meet promised turn times.
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through proactive communication, accurate quoting, and timely resolution of escalations.
- Partner with sales, marketing, and leadership to grow maintenance and avionics business and promote Hillsboro Aviation throughout the industry.
- Maintain and develop relationships with customers, vendors, and OEMs to support quality, availability, and cost objectives.
- Monitor key performance indicators for each division, including revenue, margin, utilization, on-time delivery, quality, and safety.
- Champion a strong safety culture and support Safety Management System (SMS) practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Licenses
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
Required Skills/Experience
- Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of aircraft maintenance and/or avionics experience, including time leading or supervising a team
- Demonstrated experience managing a budget and P&L
- Experience building and developing high-performing teams
- General and business aviation experience
- Working knowledge of FAA regulations and Part 145 Repair Station operations
Preferred Skills/Experience
- FAA Inspection Authorization (IA)
- Prior leadership experience in a Part 145 Repair Station
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Avionics experience or a strong working familiarity with avionics operations
