BRICK CITY METALS – MATERIAL HANDLER

Brick City Metals is seeking a skilled Material Handler to join our team who is responsible for receiving, staging, and tracking material, and for moving it from the receiving department to the machine department. The material handler uses an overhead crane and other material handling equipment to move stock safely and is responsible for clearly and accurately marking material so that job information stays with it from one operation to the next. Strong organization and accurate measurement are essential to keeping material flowing and jobs on schedule.

WHAT THE ROLE DOES:

• Operate an overhead crane to lift, move, and position material safely, including proper rigging, load control, and hand signals
• Move and stage material from the receiving department to the machine department
• Write job numbers, part numbers, heat numbers, lengths, and other required information on material clearly and legibly
• Measure material accurately using a tape measure, reading to the sixteenth of an inch
• Verify incoming material against packing slips and purchase orders; report shortages, damage, or discrepancies to the supervisor or foreman
• Keep material organized and properly located in racks, bins, and staging areas
• Keep aisles, racks, staging areas and the general work areas neat, clean and free of hazards
• Pull and stage material for upcoming jobs according to the schedule and priority list
• Maintain accurate material records and update job status or tracking documents
• Load and unload trucks and assist shipping and receiving as needed
• Inspect crane, slings, chains, hooks and other rigging equipment before use
• Follow all safety rules and ensure PPE is always worn
• Communicate material shortages, equipment problems, or discrepancies to the foreman or manager
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or foreman

THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Experience with an overhead crane, familiarity with load handling and rigging, prior metal fabrication or machine shop experience required
• Forklift experience required; certification not required
• Clear, legible handwriting for marking material and completing paperwork
• Well organized with strong attention to detail in locating, staging and tracking material
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. And stand for extended periods of time with frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and pushing or pulling material
• Takes direction well, communicates effectively in a team environment, and maintains dependable attendance and punctuality
• Local to Ocala, FL area
