Job Description
Job Summary: The Lead Trauma Registrar is responsible for the integrity of collection, analysis, entry, completion, and validation of all patients meeting inclusion criteria into the hospital trauma registry daily. The Lead Trauma Registrar will also ensure delivery of Trauma Center data to the North Carolina Office of EMS, and internal CaroMont Regional Medical Center departments to maintain trauma center designation. The Lead Trauma Registrar will establish processes for data concurrency and data validation to ensure that the databases are not only current, but accurate. The Lead Trauma Registrar will assist in the training of the Trauma Registrars to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. The Lead Trauma Registrar should also maintain knowledge of all rules, regulations, laws, and guidelines that impact or govern the Trauma Registry and ensure that CaroMont Regional Medical Center is in compliance. This position reports to the manager of Trauma Services.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or healthcare field required. Completion of ICD-10 Coding Program or equivalent experience. Completion of Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Coder Training required within 6 months of hire. Completion of the American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course or equivalent provided by a state trauma program required within 6 months of hire. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with trauma registry databases and report writing is required for the Lead Registrar title. Extensive knowledge of registry maintenance, related regulations, and data abstraction procedures. Proficient in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) or Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) required within one year
