Our team is seeking a Dietitian to oversee medical nutrition therapy for Oncology patients, provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy integrated with patients' medical goals, and collaborate with oncology education staff to ensure the coordinated delivery of nutrition education services.
Position Summary
Holyoke Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Registered Dietitian to join our Oncology team. This role provides comprehensive medical nutrition therapy to oncology patients throughout the continuum of care — from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, and, when needed, palliative support. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and the broader care team to help patients maintain strength, manage treatment side effects, and improve overall quality of life through individualized nutrition care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments for oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Develop and implement individualized medical nutrition therapy plans based on diagnosis, treatment plan, and patient needs
- Monitor and manage nutrition-related side effects of cancer treatment, including nausea, weight loss, taste changes, and difficulty swallowing
- Provide patient and family education on nutrition strategies to support treatment tolerance and recovery
- Collaborate closely with oncologists, nurses, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team
- Document nutrition assessments, interventions, and progress in the electronic medical record in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards
- Participate in tumor board meetings and care conferences as needed
- Stay current on evidence-based oncology nutrition guidelines and best practices
- Support quality improvement initiatives related to oncology nutrition care
- Provide nutrition counseling for cancer prevention and survivorship as appropriate
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience, 1 year in a health care setting preferred
- Current Massachusetts state licensure as a Dietitian (or eligibility to obtain licensure in Massachusetts)
- Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) preferred, or willingness to obtain certification
- Prior clinical experience in oncology nutrition strongly preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide compassionate care to patients facing serious illness
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Proficiency with electronic medical record systems
