Job Description
Florida Utility Trailers is seeking an experienced Trailer Technician with hands-on expertise in semi-trailer body and structural repair. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and enjoys working on everything from body damage and structural components to doors, panels, floors, and related trailer repairs.
In this role, you’ll inspect, diagnose, and repair semi-trailers while working alongside an experienced team in a well-established shop. We’re looking for someone who can work safely and efficiently, troubleshoot repair needs, and deliver high-quality work our customers can depend on.
If you have experience in trailer body repair, collision repair, fabrication, or similar heavy-equipment body work, we want to hear from you!
Essential Responsibilities
· Inspect and diagnose trailer concerns, identify the cause of failures, and determine appropriate repairs using sound judgment and applicable service information.
· Perform preventive maintenance and DOT inspections within assigned training and qualifications; accurately document findings and report safety concerns.
· Diagnose and repair air brake and air systems; repair or replace brake components, suspensions, axles, wheel ends, and landing gear.
· Diagnose and repair trailer lighting, wiring, connections, and related electrical components.
· Repair or replace doors, roofs, floors, side panels, and structural components; perform minor and major body repairs, welding, and fabrication within demonstrated capabilities.
· Complete authorized repairs according to company procedures and manufacturer specifications; inspect and verify completed work before returning the job for closeout.
· Prepare clear repair notes describing the concern, cause, and correction; accurately record parts and materials used and provide supporting photos or measurements when needed.
· Use company timekeeping and service systems accurately and promptly to record all hours worked and time spent on the correct repair order and operation. Update job punches as assignments change, record non-repair time under the appropriate category, and promptly report missed punches, errors, or system issues to the supervisor.
· Follow assigned priorities, work efficiently without sacrificing safety or quality, and promptly communicate additional repair needs, parts requirements, delays, or work outside the approved scope.
· Protect customer equipment, care for company tools, and maintain a clean, organized work area. Follow shop safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
Requirements:· Previous semi-trailer repair or related heavy-equipment experience preferred, with working knowledge of air brakes, suspensions, electrical systems, and trailer components.
· Ability to diagnose problems and complete assigned repairs with limited supervision, while recognizing when assistance or additional authorization is needed.
· Welding and fabrication experience strongly preferred.
· Ability to read and follow repair instructions, safety procedures, and applicable technical information.
· Ability and willingness to use company computers, tablets, time clocks, and service systems to track time, review assignments, and document work accurately.
· Own basic hand tools appropriate for trailer repair work.
· Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
· Dependable attendance, clear communication, and the ability to work independently and cooperatively with the shop and parts teams.
· Experience with Utility, Great Dane, Wabash, Hyundai, Stoughton, Fontaine, Landoll, or other commercial trailers is a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· Work is performed primarily in a dealership repair shop and around parked trailers, with exposure to heat, noise, dust, grease, and other conditions associated with trailer repair.
· Work requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working beneath or inside trailers, with or without reasonable accommodation.
· Safely handle tools, parts, and equipment, using lifting equipment or team assistance when required.
· Maintain awareness of moving equipment and nearby work, and promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, or injuries.
