Job Description

Exciting opportunity at NASA JSC working under the Flight Operations Directorate supporting the Training Division in the Mission Training Center (MTC) and real-time Mission Support in the Mission Control Center (MCC). Candidate responsibilities include equipment and trainer configurations, system and equipment modifications, test, and verifications, and corrective and preventive maintenance while following engineering work packages, and task specific guidelines and procedures to ensure safety, reliability, and performance. Typical equipment supported includes computational, data & voice communication, and visual display and switching systems in the MTC and MCC. May also participate in system design reviews, system analyses, work planning, and the initiation, review, and revision of procedures. Performs skilled work at the advanced level. May instruct, lead, and direct the work of others. Adherence to NASA and MSOC policies and standards for Workmanship Quality, Safety, and Code of Conduct. Reports to the Maintenance Services manager or designee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Duties include corrective and preventive maintenance along with installation and modification activities for audio, video, data communications, and network and computing systems. Additionally, in the MTC, duties include reconfiguration, set up and validation testing of simulator Visual and Communication system prior to training sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to work at a high level in a team environment.
  • Requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds and pull cabling, occasional work in confined spaces, work from ladders or platforms, and on rare occasions, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE is provided) as called for in task specific instructions (safety shoes, glasses and gloves are more common, infrequent work around asbestos includes light outer clothing and the use of a respirator.
  • Candidate must be able to pass and will be subjected to random drug screenings.
  • Strict compliance with NASA Environmental and Hazard Communication guidelines together with use of the Globally Harmonized system (GHS) for Classification and Labeling of chemicals.
  • Candidate will be trained and then must demonstrate the ability to solder, fabricate or repair copper and fiber optic cabling per NASA’s Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) Workmanship Standards and adhere to Electrostatic Sensitive Devices (ESD) protocol.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years of related technical experience.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrate familiarity with the following: Working experience or familiarity with the following: Microsoft Office, Windows, Linux, Voice and Video over IP, Networking Servers, Switches, Routers, Hubs, Firewalls, LAN and WAN
  • Work history of analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving anomalies related to computer and ancillary hardware systems and components and miscellaneous electronic hardware.
  • Strong communication skill.
