Job Description

Position Summary

The University of Massachusetts Foundation is seeking a results-driven NetSuite Implementation & Finance Data Analytics Manager to join its Finance team. This newly created position will play a critical dual role: initially leading the organization-wide implementation of NetSuite ERP, and transitioning into a permanent in-house data analytics function serving the Finance department’s ongoing reporting and analytical needs.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in financial systems, ERP project management, and data analysis, along with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for leadership and internal stakeholders.

Phase 1: NetSuite Implementation (Project Lead)

In the initial phase of this role, the NetSuite Implementation & Finance Data Analytics Manager will serve as the primary internal project lead for the Foundation’s NetSuite ERP implementation, coordinating across departments, vendors, and leadership to ensure a successful rollout.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the internal project manager and primary point of contact for the NetSuite implementation, working directly with the selected implementation partner and vendor.
  • Develop and manage a detailed project plan including timelines, milestones, resource requirements, risk mitigation strategies, and go-live readiness criteria.
  • Coordinate with Finance, IT, HR, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, document workflows, and validate system configurations.
  • Oversee data migration activities including the mapping, cleansing, and validation of legacy financial data into NetSuite.
  • Facilitate end-user training, UAT (User Acceptance Testing), and change management activities to drive adoption across the organization.
  • Monitor and report on project status, risks, and issues to the CFO and senior leadership throughout the implementation lifecycle.
  • Document all system configurations, customizations, integrations, and business process changes for ongoing reference and audit purposes.
  • Manage post-implementation support and system stabilization, ensuring Finance team continuity during the transition period.

Phase 2: In-House Data Analytics (Ongoing)

Following the successful NetSuite go-live, this role will transition into a permanent analytics function embedded within the Finance department, providing data-driven insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.

Ongoing responsibilities include:

  • Design and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and management reports utilizing NetSuite reporting tools and supplemental BI platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and long-range planning initiatives.
  • Develop and automate recurring Finance reports to reduce manual effort and improve data accuracy and consistency.
  • Partner with the CFO and Finance leadership to identify data trends, surface anomalies, and provide analytical support for strategic decisions.
  • Maintain and improve data governance standards, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across financial systems.
  • Serve as the internal NetSuite subject matter expert (SME), supporting ongoing system enhancements, upgrades, and user support needs.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments on cross-functional data initiatives and system integrations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, financial systems, or a related analytical role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing ERP implementations, with NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, competing priorities, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms).
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex information clearly to non-technical audiences.

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or foundation finance environments.
  • NetSuite Administrator certification or equivalent hands-on NetSuite configuration experience.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Experience with SQL or other data querying languages.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and fund accounting principles.
