BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Clinical Educator for Respiratory Care develops and implements educational programs and resources to enhance the clinical performance of the Respiratory Care Department, ensuring compliance with AARC guidelines.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: NO

Minimum Education: Associates degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Degree: Degree in Respiratory Care or related field required.

License/Certification Required: Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Certified by the Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners as a Respiratory Care Practitioner required. PALS and NRP certification or must obtain certification within one year of hire. Certification as Neonatal Pediatric Specialist by the National Board of Respiratory Care required within one year of hire. Basic life support required.

Minimum Work Experience: 2 years of related experience required. One-year pediatric and Neonatal level III Respiratory Care experience required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Works flexible hours. Strong knowledge base of pediatric respiratory care modalities.
  • Effective communication, presentation and leadership skills.
  • Ability to participate in the management on-call rotation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and utilizes criteria-based tools to assess and improve clinical performance across ED, PICU, NICU, Medical-Surgical, and ground transport settings.
  • Creates and manages departmental learning materials to support clinical excellence and accessibility.
  • Coordinates staff education on policies, procedures, and clinical resources to ensure competency and compliance.
  • Enhance onboarding processes for new employees to facilitate effective integration.
  • Collaborates with leadership to identify and explore new service line opportunities through committee participation and monitoring of professional trends and research.
  • Serves as the point of contact for educational programs, guiding rotating students and promoting career opportunities in pediatric respiratory care.
  • Performs respiratory therapist duties as needed for training, education, or departmental support, acting as a clinical role model.
  • Acts as a super user for all departmental areas and equipment, providing expertise and support to staff.
  • Participates in weekend on-call rotation with other departmental leaders to ensure continuous support and oversight.
  • Dedicates time to provide education and support for nightshift staff, ensuring accessibility and engagement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-

  • Note: Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
  • Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
