Shift: 2nd Shift
The Safety & Compliance Coordinator provides leadership and support for workplace health and safety initiatives on 2nd shift. This position promotes a positive safety culture by conducting inspections, providing employee training, monitoring compliance, identifying workplace hazards, and ensuring employees and supervisors follow OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Provide safety leadership and support to 2nd shift employees, supervisors, and management.
- Promote a positive and proactive workplace safety culture.
- Conduct daily safety audits and inspections of production and maintenance activities.
- Identify unsafe acts, conditions, workplace hazards, and potential OSHA compliance concerns.
- Document safety observations, concerns, hazards, and corrective actions.
- Conduct audits of tasks requiring Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Ensure employees properly follow established lockout/tagout procedures.
- Work with supervisors and management to promptly correct identified safety deficiencies.
- Follow up on corrective actions to ensure safety concerns have been resolved.
- Assist with new-hire safety orientation and onboarding.
- Provide safety refresher training to employees as needed.
- Assist with additional Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) training programs.
- Train new employees on workplace safety requirements with assistance from supervisors, management, and other employees.
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the mill and regularly engage with employees regarding safe work practices.
- Encourage employees to take personal accountability for workplace safety.
- Help reduce unsafe risk-taking behaviors and workplace complacency.
- Assist with workplace accident and incident investigations.
- Document information related to accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Assist in determining appropriate corrective and preventive actions following incidents.
- Monitor corrective actions to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
- Conduct routine fire prevention inspections.
- Identify potential fire hazards and areas requiring corrective action.
- Work with supervisors and management to correct fire prevention deficiencies.
- Assist with the development and implementation of manufacturing safety action plans.
- Assist with emergency response planning, procedures, and safety drills.
- Ensure supervisors consistently enforce company safety rules within their assigned areas.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Communicate new or revised OSHA regulations, safety policies, and procedures to appropriate employees and supervisors.
- Administer first aid when necessary.
- Coordinate medical treatment for workplace injuries requiring care beyond first aid.
- Attend and assist with production safety meetings.
- Maintain accurate safety and compliance documentation and records.
- Perform additional safety and compliance duties as assigned.
- Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred.
- Previous safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations required.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and management.
- Ability to conduct employee training and safety presentations.
- Ability to document safety observations, investigations, and corrective actions accurately.
- Ability to work independently and maintain a visible presence throughout a manufacturing facility.
- OSHA 30 certification required within the first year of employment.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required within the first year of employment.
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other required equipment.
- Follow all company safety rules, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
- Do not enter restricted areas without proper authorization.
- Immediately report unsafe or improperly functioning equipment.
- Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge or training.
- Visually inspect equipment and work areas before beginning work.
- Follow standard Lockout/Tagout procedures when working around applicable machinery.
- Use proper lifting techniques and safe material-handling practices.
