Billing Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Billing Director based in the United States.

This is a senior revenue cycle leadership role responsible for overseeing medical billing operations and strengthening financial performance. You will lead efforts to improve billing accuracy, accelerate collections, reduce denials, and maintain compliance with healthcare and payer requirements. The position combines strategic planning with hands-on operational leadership and continuous process improvement. You will work closely with coding, credentialing, billing, and clinical operations teams to optimize the full revenue cycle. Success in this role requires strong analytical judgment, a deep understanding of payer requirements, and the ability to lead teams toward measurable outcomes. Accountabilities:
  • Lead and oversee day-to-day medical billing and revenue cycle operations, ensuring efficient, accurate, and compliant processes.
  • Monitor key revenue cycle metrics, including billing accuracy, collections, denials, claim performance, and overall financial results.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce claim denials, improve reimbursement, strengthen collections, and maximize revenue.
  • Ensure claims are prepared and submitted accurately in accordance with CMS requirements and commercial payer guidelines.
  • Oversee billing audits, claim reviews, quality control activities, and corrective actions to maintain high standards of accuracy.
  • Identify billing trends, discrepancies, recurring issues, and operational inefficiencies, translating findings into actionable process improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with coding, credentialing, billing, clinical operations, and other cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve revenue cycle performance.
  • Develop and maintain billing policies, procedures, workflows, and controls designed to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and support billing team members while establishing clear performance expectations and fostering professional development.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable healthcare regulations, payer requirements, internal policies, and revenue cycle compliance standards.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present billing and revenue cycle reports, KPIs, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Support payer audits, internal audits, compliance reviews, and other financial or operational assessments.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance billing performance, operational efficiency, and measurable financial outcomes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in medical billing, revenue cycle management, healthcare finance, or a closely related field.
  • At least 2 years of leadership or management experience overseeing billing or revenue cycle teams.
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, claims processing, denial management, payer requirements, and revenue cycle management.
  • Working knowledge of CMS and commercial insurance payer guidelines and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Experience with billing systems and EHR/EMR platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to identify root causes and translate data into practical improvements.
  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing processes that improve billing accuracy, reduce denials, and increase revenue performance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across clinical and administrative functions.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Experience in neurology, behavioral health, or specialty-care billing is highly preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CPB (Certified Professional Biller), CPC (Certified Professional Coder), or CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) are valued.
