Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-driven Mid-Level Systems Engineer to join our team in Tysons, VA. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the applications infrastructure across all networks, providing critical technical support to ensure application security compliance, and implementing core technical precepts.
You will own the system design, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of operating systems, application software, and management tools. Operating in a dynamic environment, you will collaborate closely with developers and cross-functional teams to drive efficiency through automation, robust security, and disaster recovery strategies, while fulfilling a contractually required role in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Implementation: Design, install, configure, and test operating systems, application software, and system management tools across all network environments.
Monitoring & Maintenance: Proactively monitor system performance, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement solutions to guarantee high availability.
Security & Redundancy: Implement and maintain robust security measures, application compliance protocols, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans.
Automation & Scripting: Develop custom scripts and configure CI/CD pipelines to automate routine tasks, integrate testing tools, and improve overall system efficiency.
Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across hardware, software, and network components, while participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with developers, management, and other departments to deliver requirements and maintain thorough documentation for system architecture and procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance required.
Experience: 2+ years of professional experience in systems engineering, testing, or DevOps roles.
CI/CD & Pipelines: Proven experience configuring CI/CD pipelines and automated testing tools.
Technical Stack: Strong working knowledge of Jenkins, Linux/Unix environments, version control (Git), and scripting languages (Python, Bash, or similar).
Methodology & Education: Familiarity with Agile development practices paired with a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math).
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
Familiarity with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
Direct experience working with advanced test automation frameworks.
Desired Attributes
Strategic thinking with a strong big-picture perspective on enterprise infrastructure.
Exceptional time management and organizational skills to handle concurrent technical priorities.
A genuine passion for IT, operational excellence, and continuous learning.
