Field Service Technician - Level 1

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Field Service Technician - Level 1 based in Canada.

This is an entry-level technical field service role focused on maintaining the performance and reliability of precision measurement and metrology equipment. You will develop hands-on expertise in installation, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair while working alongside experienced technicians. The role combines classroom learning, on-the-job training, and customer-site experience across Canada. You will work with mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and computer-controlled systems in a fast-paced technical environment. As your skills develop, you will take increasing ownership of service activities and customer interactions. Your work will directly contribute to equipment uptime, service quality, and customer satisfaction. The position is remote, with candidates preferably located in the Toronto area and regular travel to customer locations required.

Accountabilities:
  • Complete classroom, online, and hands-on technical training while progressing toward the required technical competencies and certifications.

  • Develop practical expertise in installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and related precision metrology equipment.

  • Build working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and computer-controlled systems.

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and service documentation.

  • Support senior technicians with installations, preventive maintenance, calibrations, troubleshooting, repairs, and customer service calls.

  • Perform assigned service activities within the scope of completed training and applicable supervision requirements.

  • Progress toward independently completing service assignments in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.

  • Diagnose basic mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and system-related issues, escalating complex problems when required.

  • Inspect equipment, identify service requirements, and recommend appropriate follow-up actions.

  • Use approved tools, diagnostic equipment, and service procedures safely and effectively.

  • Provide professional, responsive, and solutions-focused support at customer locations.

  • Clearly communicate equipment status, service findings, completed work, and recommended next steps to customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Complete service reports, work orders, calibration records, expense reports, and other documentation accurately and on time.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment conditions, work performed, parts used, outstanding issues, and follow-up requirements.

  • Maintain assigned tools, diagnostic equipment, spare parts, and consumables in good working condition.

  • Monitor assigned inventory, maintain accurate records, and coordinate with service, deployment, receiving, and warehouse teams as needed.

  • Follow all workplace, customer-site, health and safety, quality, security, and service procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, identify potential hazards, and use required personal protective equipment.

  • Safely operate company vehicles and material-handling equipment in accordance with applicable policies.

  • Protect confidential customer and company information and perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:
  • College diploma or university degree in electronics, electromechanical engineering technology, industrial mechanics, mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.

  • An equivalent combination of relevant technical training and practical experience may also be considered.

  • Previous experience installing, maintaining, repairing, or troubleshooting industrial electronics, machinery, mechanical equipment, or computer-controlled systems is preferred.

  • Experience with CMMs, precision measurement systems, or industrial metrology equipment is an asset.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems is required.

  • Previous field service or customer-service experience is considered an advantage.

  • Strong mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer aptitude.

  • Ability to learn complex technical concepts, equipment, software, and service procedures quickly.

  • Basic diagnostic, analytical, and troubleshooting capabilities.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, drawings, and instructions.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and professionally.

  • Strong customer-service and relationship-building skills.

  • Excellent organization, planning, and time-management abilities.

  • Ability to complete accurate service, calibration, and expense documentation.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities in a fast-paced service environment.

  • Ability to work independently once the required training has been completed.

  • Strong collaboration skills and willingness to learn from senior technicians and work with cross-functional teams.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer locations across Canada as required.

  • Annual salary of $55,000–$68,000 CAD.
