Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Automation Engineer (Cisco CNC Upgrade) based in United States.
This role focuses on building and advancing network automation solutions across large-scale, multi-vendor service provider infrastructure.
You will work with Cisco CNC, Cisco NSO, Nokia NSP, Python, APIs, and modern network programmability technologies.
The position plays a key role in improving network reliability, operational efficiency, and engineering consistency.
You will automate configuration, validation, monitoring, compliance, remediation, and maintenance activities.
The role also emphasizes telemetry-driven automation, observability, CI/CD, safe change controls, and automated troubleshooting.
You will collaborate closely with network engineering teams to reduce manual intervention and standardize operational practices.
This is a fully remote opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining networking expertise with software-driven automation.
- Design, develop, and maintain network automation solutions using Cisco CNC, Cisco NSO, Nokia NSP, Python, APIs, and related technologies, supporting configuration, maintenance, validation, and operational activities across multi-vendor environments.
- Build automated pre-checks and post-checks that validate routing, interfaces, adjacencies, reachability, synchronization, and overall network health before and after changes.
- Develop capabilities to detect and remediate configuration drift, synchronization issues, and deviations from established network engineering standards.
- Integrate automation platforms with inventory, telemetry, monitoring, alarming, ticketing, and source-of-truth systems to create more connected and efficient operational workflows.
- Develop telemetry-driven and closed-loop automation that identifies network issues and enables appropriate automated remediation, while troubleshooting controller, API, device-level, and automation failures through structured root-cause analysis.
- Identify repetitive manual processes and recurring failure patterns that can be reduced through automation, improving reliability and engineering efficiency across the network.
- Maintain safe and reliable automation practices through testing, CI/CD, version control, rollback mechanisms, change validation, and blast-radius controls, while creating dashboards, operational tooling, documentation, and runbooks that improve visibility and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated understanding of service provider networking concepts and technologies, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, SNMP, and network telemetry, with professional experience supporting or engineering large-scale service provider networks.
- Hands-on experience with network automation and orchestration platforms such as Cisco CNC, Cisco NSO, Nokia NSP, or comparable technologies, combined with strong Python skills for automation, tooling, and API integrations.
- Experience working with REST APIs, NETCONF/RESTCONF, YANG, or other network programmability technologies, as well as Linux/Unix environments and troubleshooting of automation platforms and integrations.
- Practical experience with network monitoring, telemetry, configuration validation, operational troubleshooting, and the investigation of network automation failures and integration issues.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, version control, and software development practices for maintaining production-grade network automation solutions.
- An Associate’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent practical experience, along with at least three years of experience in software engineering, network engineering, or network automation support roles.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to work effectively with network engineering teams and translate operational challenges into scalable automation solutions.
- Estimated base salary of $77,100–$118,600 USD annually, with actual compensation determined by factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, certifications, and organizational needs.
- Eligibility for a discretionary annual incentive plan for non-sales roles.
- Fully remote work arrangement within the United States.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401(k) retirement savings plan.
- Paid time off, including paid parental leave.
- This position is not eligible for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
