Quality Segment Technician
Position Summary:
The Quality Segment Technician will provide market-specific quality support, with an emphasis on customer-facing support and problem-solving. This role will serve as the segment’s lead quality resource supporting sales, and the shop as it relates to order recovery (rework and deviations), customer-driven corrective actions, scheduled & reactive customer meetings, and coordinating internal resources for implementing process improvements to ensure segment quality expectations. The resource in this role must possess problem-solving and facilitation skills to challenge and strengthen processes, while demonstrating the collaboration skills required to bring resources together and provide sustainable processes. Each segment may have a specific directed focus; as such, there will be different priorities for each segment.

Position Hours and Location
This is a 1st shift position Monday through Friday 6AM – 4PM located on-site at our Spring Grove, IL manufacturing facility.
Essential Position Responsibilities:
- Customer Communication: Represent Scot Forge as we effectively communicate with the Scot Forge Sales team and customers’ quality and technical resources regarding nonconformances identified, along with manufacturing and process capabilities. Support sales and process engineering in the creation, communication, and resolution of segment-specific quality issues, including NCRS and deviations.
- Segment Specific Factory Quality Support: Monitor daily NCRS for issues impacting the assigned customer base. Manage all aspects of the NCR process (Yellow and Red) to ensure the order is addressed and timely recovery actions are executed.
- Determine recovery activities needed to get forging back on track
- Grinding on parts
- Determine required rework and help communicate the plan to appropriate people
- Accurate codes
- Dispositioned correctly
- Work with teams to make sure NCs are closed if they are fixed.
- Determine if there is learning in the yellows
- RED NC investigation (CA) and CA on recurring issues.
- MRR – responsible for the disposition and physical movement of nonconforming material
- Determine recovery activities needed to get forging back on track
- Participate and Lead Structured Problem-Solving Events. Lead and/or work with a cross-functional team to identify root cause and develop and implement positive corrective action(s) to correct identified problem(s). Use, facilitate, and coach teams in the proper use of Structured Problem-Solving tools. Drive CARs to completion.
- For volume part numbers, there will be a heavy focus on process control: Where appropriate, implement FMEAs, control plans, and KPC’s.
- Support Customer and Industry Compliance Issues: Responsible for communicating areas of noncompliance and leading the organization in response, customer communication, and corrective actions. This includes supporting entering rework operations as needed, drafting and tracking customer-facing deviations, and supporting all internal and customer-facing problem-solving activities.
- Specification Interpretation: Must read and interpret complex specifications and contracts from multiple industries, including but not limited to: Military, Nuclear, Aerospace, Oil and Gas, and others. This role will work with SME’s, Process Engineering, and Sales, and drive to an agreed interpretation of specifications. When necessary, this role will seek guidance from regulators, customers, and industry groups. additionally, this role will help communicate interpretation to EE’s.
- Review of Complex Order Requirements: Quality Segment technician will work with quality assurance specialists, process engineers, SMEs, and sales, will ensure new order packages communicate all compliance requirements.
- Roll out customer requirements. Communicate and provide training to personnel regarding the execution of procedures and the interpretation of specifications/drawings as they apply to the technical manufacturing, test, and inspection requirements invoked by customers.
- Standardization of Processes: Facilitate communication between different process owners in multiple locations to maximize standardization and clarity of practice. By a thorough understanding of the business and manufacturing processes, the segment quality engineer will reduce redundancy in processes and procedures.
- Safety. Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of industrial accidents and provide quality feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.
- Teamwork. Work in cooperation with all fellow employee owners to sustain a strong team atmosphere.
- Job-related improvements. Utilize metrics to evaluate and eliminate waste for implemented processes, including efficiency, accuracy, and quality improvements. Support and participate in 6’s / Lean activities.

- Provide plant floor level quality culture leadership enabling the teams to fully understand their quality impact on our customers, our employee-owned business, and their individual work groups.
- Train, support, and audit assigned areas, ensuring education and compliance with all appropriate customer and industry requirements.
- Train on the use of quality tools to reduce issues and improve quality measures.
- Analyze the nature of nonconformance using existing data analysis tools, share results with appropriate people, and develop improvement plans.
- Develop and leverage data trending tools, including Pareto Charts, Histograms, and other methods
- Formal CARs to resolve issues
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years relevant manufacturing experience. Previous experience in the metals industry and/or metallurgy knowledge.
- Ability to learn, lead, and facilitate Structured Problem Solving (8D, A3, or other)
- Good written and oral communication skills, as this role will be customer-facing
- Ability to read and interpret specifications and technical documents
- Ability to effectively train others
- Ability to write procedures
Additional Information:
- Scot Forge requires all employees to work 100% onsite.
- This position is primarily located in our Spring Grove, IL facility with occasional travel to plants in other locations as required (Franklin Park, IL and Clinton, WI).

- Must be able to pass a 90 day head hair drug test today.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Position requires a mixture of occasionally working in office and primarily working in production areas while forklifts, overhead cranes and related equipment are in use. On occasion while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to heat and cold weather conditions as well as wet and/or humid conditions. Production environment may expose individual to excessive loud noise. When in the area of production, appropriate PPE is mandatory.

The estimated pay range for this position is the lowest and highest range we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We ultimately may pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. The actual base pay offered to a candidate will depend on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, geographic location and prevailing minimum wage, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.
