Application Instructions
Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction (RLW) is looking for an experienced Environmental & Erosion Control Manager to support our heavy civil and highway construction projects throughout Colorado.
We are looking for someone who understands environmental compliance but also understands construction. This is not a position that sits behind a desk and manages paperwork all day. You will be out on active projects, identifying potential issues before they become problems, working directly with project teams and subcontractors, and helping make sure our projects stay compliant and moving forward.
This Role Goes Beyond Compliance
We need someone who is willing to jump in and help the project team execute the work when needed.
On projects with significant erosion control, seeding or landscaping scopes, you may help manage those subcontractors directly, coordinate schedules and field activities, track progress, identify issues and make sure the work meets project and environmental requirements.
We are looking for someone who sees a problem and takes ownership of getting it fixed — not someone who simply writes it down on an inspection report and walks away.
What You'll Do
- Oversee environmental and erosion control compliance across active heavy civil and highway construction projects.
- Conduct regular erosion control inspections and project walks, identifying deficiencies and making sure corrective actions are completed.
- Manage and maintain Stormwater Management Plans (SWMPs), SWMP notebooks, inspection records and required environmental documentation.
- Help obtain and maintain required environmental permits, including construction stormwater and dewatering permits.
- Make sure projects are meeting applicable CDOT, CDPHE and construction stormwater requirements.
- Coordinate directly with CDOT environmental personnel, inspectors, project managers, superintendents, subcontractors and regulatory agencies.
- Work closely with field teams to make sure erosion and sediment control measures are properly installed, maintained and repaired throughout construction.
- Support environmental preconstruction planning and project closeout requirements.
- Track environmental issues and corrective actions through resolution.
- Travel between RLW projects throughout Colorado as needed.
Position Requirements
What We're Looking For
- Heavy civil, highway or transportation construction experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with erosion and sediment control on active construction sites.
- Experience conducting erosion control inspections and identifying potential compliance issues.
- Strong understanding of Colorado construction stormwater requirements, CDPHE regulations and CDOT environmental requirements.
- Experience managing and maintaining SWMPs and SWMP notebooks.
- Experience with environmental permitting, including construction stormwater and dewatering permits.
- Experience working with erosion control measures, stabilization, seeding and related construction activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, engineers and regulatory personnel.
- Willing to get directly involved in project execution when needed. For example, on a project with significant erosion control or seeding work, they may be asked to help manage the erosion control/seeding/landscaping subcontractors, coordinate their work, track progress, etc.
- Ability to work independently and manage environmental responsibilities across multiple projects.
- Willingness to travel between projects throughout Colorado.
