Job Description:
ELLKAY is seeking a senior-level subject matter expert with deep, hands-on experience in blood bank, transfusion services, or blood center laboratory operations; who has lived the workflows and understands the nuance, complexity, and regulatory sensitivity of blood bank data.
This leader will serve as the primary authority within ELLKAY for all things related to blood bank data migration, archival strategy, regulatory compliance, and interoperability, guiding both internal teams and client stakeholders through transformation initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines clinical transfusion knowledge, LIS/LIMS or BECS system expertise, and data engineering/migration fluency, with the ability to influence strategy, establish best practices, and serve as a trusted advisor to large health systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve as ELLKAY’s enterprise-level SME for blood bank and transfusion medicine data.
- Define the enterprise strategy for blood-bank data migration, archival, normalization, and compliance-driven retention.
- Establish best practices, standards, playbooks, and quality frameworks for executing blood-bank data conversions.
- Lead the design and validation of data mapping specifications and data migration workflows.
- Provide senior-level QA oversight for highly regulated clinical datasets.
- Ensure compliance with AABB, FDA, CAP, and CLIA requirements.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients’ transfusion medicine, pathology, and IT leadership.
- Represent ELLKAY in strategic conversations with clients and vendors.
- Partner with engineering, product, and data governance teams.
- Mentor junior staff and SMEs.
Qualifications:
- Certified as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or categorical certification by Board of Certification (ASCP)
- 10+ years of experience in a hospital blood bank, transfusion service, or blood center.
- 3+ years supporting Epic EHR implementation, migrations; deep working knowledge of Epic EHR.
- Deep working knowledge of BECS/LIS/LIMS platforms.
- Proven leadership in data migration, normalization, or archival conversions.
- Demonstrated expertise with AABB, FDA, CAP, and CLIA standards.
- Strong understanding of immunohematology and transfusion workflows.
- Experience collaborating with IT, EMR, data engineering, or interoperability teams.
- Exceptional communication and client-facing skills.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- SBB(ASCP) or related certification.
- Epic Beaker Clinical Pathology certification .
- Experience leading enterprise-scale migrations.
- Familiarity with vendor-neutral archives and legacy system decommissioning.
- Background in interoperability standards.
